Las Vegas Raiders WR Davante Adams suffered a leg injury during a joint practice session on Aug. 11. What's the latest on the All-Pro pass catcher?

The Las Vegas Raiders‘ offense wouldn’t be very effective without wideout Davante Adams, but the All-Pro pass catcher went down with an injury during a joint practice with the San Francisco 49ers on Friday, Aug. 11. What happened to Adams, and what’s the latest on his health status?

    Davante Adams Injury Update

Adams suffered the injury on the first play of a practice session against the 49ers. He took a hard hit from San Francisco linebacker Oren Burks after running a slant route and stayed down on the field.

According to multiple reports, Adams appeared to injure his lower right leg. He initially had to be helped off the field, but after being assessed by the Raiders’ trainers on the sideline, he was able to stand under his own power.

Adams sat down on a Gatorade cooler, and 49ers general manager John Lynch came over to check on the veteran receiver.

Las Vegas’ medical staff eventually put a sleeve on Adams’ left leg, and he was able to walk off the field and into the locker room, albeit with a limp.

Fortunately, Tashan Reed of The Athletic quickly reported that Adams’ injury was considered “minor.” Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels later confirmed that diagnosis, noting Adams’ issue wasn’t “crazy serious.”

A few days later, on Wednesday, August 18, it was reported that Adams returned to practice. A huge sigh of relief for Raiders fans. It is still unclear as to whether or not Adams will see any playing time during the team’s Week 2 preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Adams has been relatively durable throughout his NFL career, but he has missed stretches of games in the recent past. In 2020, a hamstring injury cost him two games, and a turf toe ailment sidelined him for a four-game stretch in 2019.

Losing Adams for any period of time would be devastating for the Raiders’ offense. Adams made first-team All-Pro for the third consecutive season in 2022 after joining Las Vegas via a trade with the Green Bay Packers. He posted 100 receptions for 1,516 yards while leading the NFL with 14 receiving touchdowns.

The Raiders have other offensive weapons, including free agent addition Jakobi Meyers and second-round tight end Michael Mayer, but none can come close to matching Adams’ production.
