Patrick Mahomes has become the gold standard in the NFL. As the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Olympics is already making buzz for the introduction of flag football, NFL stars like Mahomes are eyeing a spot on the team.
It’s no surprise the competition is heating up. But amidst the brewing competition, no one expected the bold claim that just went viral.
US Flag Football QB Darrell Doucette Takes Bold Stance
Darrell Doucette is a 35-year-old flag football star who’s making headlines for comparing himself to Mahomes. While it would be an honor for anyone to compare themselves to the three-time Super Bowl champion, he went to a whole new level with his claim.
“I feel like I’m better than Patrick Mahomes,” Doucette declared in an interview with TMZ.

For Doucette, flag football is a whole different ball game, and his bold claim is based on possessing a “better IQ of the game.”
Mahomes saw Doucette’s claim and had the perfect reaction on X (formerly Twitter).

The quarterback for Team USA, Doucette isn’t shy about his confidence, even when it comes to taking on a superstar like Mahomes.
However, the 2023 Americas Continental Flag Football Champion is open to being proven wrong by Mahomes or any NFL stars for that matter.
NFL Stars Like Mahomes May Face a Tough Challenge From Darrell Doucette
Doucette led the team to victory at the 2022 World Games. He is enthusiastic about the sport’s growth, and only stars willing to contribute to it have a standing on the Olympic team in his eyes.
He believes that it is “disrespectful” for NFL players to assume that they deserve a place at the Olympics.

Therefore, Doucette threw down the gauntlet for any NFL player who thinks they can dominate in the flag football world, claiming they’d likely lose to the more experienced flag football squad.
Mahomes has shown interest in competing at the Olympics. However, the Chiefs quarterback understands the depth of the challenge.
“I definitely want to,” Mahomes said after a recent game, noting that flag football demands a different set of skills.
He’s well aware that the NFL’s speed and style of play differ, and he joked about playing flag football and not letting Chiefs head coach Andy Reid find out.
With Doucette’s bold words echoing through the sports world, all eyes are on Mahomes and other NFL stars. Will they rise to the occasion and represent the States in the 2028 Olympics, or will Doucette prove that he’s the real MVP, at least on the flag football field?
