In three of his first four seasons, Slayton has finished with at least 700 receiving yards, averaged at least 15 yards a reception and caught at least 45 passes. So perhaps the biggest question surrounding Slayton entering this season is if this is really the player to expect, or is there more to his game?
Even if there is no significant leap forward in his career, Slayton remains the Giants’ biggest deep threat, and I can see that happening in the season opener tonight. Slayton only faced the Cowboys once last season — Week 12 — but it was a productive effort, with 63 yards on just three receptions, an average of 21 yards a catch.
Slayton averaged at least 15 yards a reception in eight of his 11 starts last season, so a night with a big play or two from him would not be unexpected.
It’s not the greatest value of all time, but playing the over on longest reception still seems like a good play if you’re betting Slayton tonight.
