Dan Orlovsky Isn’t Buying Into 2024 Dallas Cowboys – ‘Lesser Talent Than Last Year but Greater Expectations’

The Dallas Cowboys have had a quiet offseason, even for their standards. The outgoing talent has far exceeded the incoming talent, and with uncertainties about Dak Prescott and the quarterback’s future, those around the NFL appear to be pessimistic about America’s Team ahead of the season.

One of those people is Dan Orlovsky, who made his feelings about the team and their potential this upcoming season.

Dan Orlovsky Pessimistic About 2024 Dallas Cowboys

On the latest episode of ESPN’s Get Up, the panel discussed the Cowboys’ projected win total of 10.5 games set by a sportsbook. A discussion spurred Orlovsky, however, to talk about why he is down on the Cowboys for 2024 and beyond.

“Well, they have five starters that don’t have positions filled right now; they lost their defensive coordinator…” Orlovsky started.

“Let me give Cowboys fans a truth serum. You got three picks in the top 174 in the NFL Draft. So you have five starters on your football team that have roles to be filled, at least three on your offensive line are giant question marks, you only got three picks in the top 174 in the NFL Draft, so they’re a lesser football team.

“This is a football team that has lesser talent than they did last year but greater expectations. That doesn’t bode well in the NFL.”

Orlovsky states he believes Dallas will win less than 10 games this season and notes he believes the expectations are higher for a team that has had three consecutive 12-win seasons.

While the holes on the roster that he points to are all valid points, his very words of apprehension are why his final point may be inaccurate. Orlovsky, among many others, has loudly proclaimed the Cowboys are worse right now than last year, so the idea that the expectation is now higher while many collectively understand the previous point seems inaccurate.

The Cowboys’ season expectations right now are certainly lower than last year, and they’re probably far worse if you gauge fan reactions. For owner Jerry Jones and the brand he has built, that may be a worse thing to recognize than them not living up to expectations. Not having any to begin with and trying to stay in the spotlight is a new challenge.

Dallas is notoriously quiet when it comes to free agency. The plan of sitting on their hands through most of this offseason is not out of character for the Cowboys — it just may not be viewed as the best plan of attack.

It’s that plan they are sticking to that has gotten them to this point, for better or worse.

How it all works out for the Cowboys in a pivotal year for all parties involved remains to be seen. In the meantime, those around the league seem to be down on Dallas in a big way.
