After suffering a scary neck strain injury this year, what type of dynasty fantasy football value does Harris have heading into the 2024 NFL season?
Damien Harris’ Dynasty Outlook
When Harris signed a one-year deal with the Bills in free agency during the 2023 NFL offseason, many fantasy managers were optimistic he could significantly contribute to the Buffalo backfield alongside James Cook. Unfortunately, it became apparent very quickly that Harris would be a TD-dependent option at best on a weekly basis.
Harris saw just 23 carries and two receptions through his first six games before suffering a neck injury that would cost him the rest of the season. His efficiency was fine, but his lack of opportunities working alongside Cook, Latavius Murray, and even Josh Allen made it close to impossible for Harris to have a meaningful fantasy impact last year.
Fortunately, Harris is set to hit the open market again this year and is expected to be healthy when free agency begins later this year.
Once upon a time, Harris finished the 2021 season as the RB14 in PPR formats with 1,061 total yards and 15 TDs. However, he lost his leading role in the New England Patriots backfield to Rhamondre Stevenson in 2022 and hasn’t had very much success since.
Harris is most effective in an early-down role, but it’s hard to imagine any running back-needy team identifying him as a lead-back candidate when other more accomplished backs like Derrick Henry, Saquon Barkley, and Josh Jacobs will potentially be available on the open market this offseason.
His limited production as a pass catcher — with just 42 receptions through his first five years in the NFL — makes his value on the open market even smaller.
