Thursday’s injury report for the Dallas Cowboys revealed that left tackle Tyron Smith was added to the report for the first time this week with an ankle injury. The Dallas Morning News reported that Smith rolled his ankle during practice, but at the moment, it’s considered a minor injury.
Cowboys LT Tyron Smith rolled his ankle in practice today, and the issue is considered minor, two people familiar with situation said. Some natural tension about O-line, but neither he nor LG Tyler Smith (hamstring) is dealing with major injury. Tyler rehabbed on side field today

According to the report, Smith was a limited participant in practice, along with Sam Williams. Tyler Smith and Donovan Wilson, however, did not participate in practice, while Jourdan Lewis was a full participant.
Cowboys’ Offensive Line Troubles
Tyron Smith’s injury comes at the same time as Tyler Smith, who has been struggling with a hamstring injury. Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said earlier in the week that they would look at different guys to fill Tyler’s spot if he’s not ready to go for Sunday.
With Dallas’ coaching staff wanting to patch up Dak Prescott’s pass protection this season, it could be time for the younger players to shine.
This means guys like T.J. Bass, Asim Richards, and Chuma Edoga could see more playing time if either one (or both) of the Smiths are out for Week 1. However, this could add a new stress level to the offensive line, depending on the extent of Tyron Smith’s injury.
Tyron Smith’s Injury History
Tyron Smith has a history of injuries that haven’t allowed him to play an entire season since 2015. In 2022, he suffered a torn hamstring and avulsion fracture of the left knee at training camp in Frisco that put him on injured reserve (IR), keeping him out of the game until December.
