Trevon Diggs Injury: Dallas Cowboys’ Potential Replacements Include Jourdan Lewis, Bryce Callahan

With CB Trevon Diggs out for the season with a torn ACL, what are the Dallas Cowboys' options to replace him?

Dallas Cowboys star CB Trevon Diggs is out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL.

With the team only three weeks into the season, they must find a stable replacement for Diggs in the backfield alongside Stephon Gilmore.

    Jourdan Lewis

Lewis made his 2023 season debut against the Jets after returning from a season-ending foot injury last October.

He played a limited number of snaps against the Jets and was set to back up DaRon Bland this season. However, the team might look to him as an immediate fix by continuity, giving him more of a workload.

    DaRon Bland

Bland is already a starter, so he might see even more of a workload as the team figures out how to get a more stable guy in Diggs’ absence. NFL Network reported Thursday that the plan is for Bland to play on the boundary in nickel, with Lewis sliding inside.

    Eric Scott Jr.

The sixth-round draft pick is still young and being polished by defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. He had glimpses of hope during training camp with his ability to play physically.

Scott is sticky in man coverage but needs to work in zone concepts.

    Noah Igbinoghene

Although Igbinoghene is a new addition to the team, he could have come at the right time.

He has played 33 games since 2020 during his time with the Dolphins and the one start he had with the Cowboys in Week 1.

The 23-year-old has been a product of a lack of opportunity due to the stacked rooms he was in.

He could find a fresh start with the Cowboys as he enjoys playing man coverage and is a boundary corner, which is needed.

    Israel Mukuamu

Mukuamu should not be overlooked as a replacement, even if he is listed as a safety on the team’s depth chart.

He played corner in college during his time at South Carolina.

His body type is similar to Diggs’, and he could be a plug-and-play guy for the team.

    Nahshon Wright

Wright is on the team’s injured reserve list and will be eligible for return in Week 4 against the Patriots.

He is dealing with an ankle injury that he sustained during the preseason.

The issue is the ramp-up period that would follow his return since he would not get to play at full speed right away. But this means he could be more prevalent later in the season.

During training camp, when Diggs was dealing with a toe injury, Wright was taking first-team reps, which could be telling about their plans later in the season.

    What Happened to Diggs?

The cornerback was injured during practice and was seen leaving the facility in crutches.

It is unclear how the injury occurred, but according to sources, he walked off the field under his own power, and a cart was not involved.

Reports state that Diggs was working on 1-on-1 drills when the injury occurred.
