Latest Practice Report From Dallas Cowboys Training Camp

    Injury Updates

During a press conference ahead of camp, head coach Mike McCarthy noted that both safeties Donovan Wilson and Israel Mukuamu are dealing with “multi-week injuries” and that cornerback Trevon Diggs wouldn’t participate in practice today.

According to sources, Diggs is dealing with a toe issue. Jane Slater of NFL Network tweeted that her sources classify it as soreness.

But that didn’t stop Diggs from being involved, as he was on the sidelines coaching up the other cornerbacks.

Wilson is dealing with a calf injury that put him in a walking boot. Meanwhile, Mukuamu is dealing with a hamstring injury.

Lastly, tight end Luke Schoonmaker was on the sideline getting work on resistance bands and putting in some mental reps, as pointed out by Cowboys writer Patrik Walker.

But there is no need to panic; there are still 45 days until the Cowboys take on the Giants for their regular-season opener.

Dak Prescott and the Offensive Line

The Zack Martin watch continues as he was not at practice again. This is the second day Martin has missed.

Josh Ball has been filling in at the right guard position with the starters, with Chuma Edoga practicing with the backups in Martin’s absence.

McCarthy mentioned in his press conference that protection and the passing game are the two most significant changes in the offensive scheme.

During pocket presence drills, Dak Prescott was right on the money and looked accurate in getting the ball to his target.

    7-on-7 Drills

During the 7-on-7 drills, there were a few standout performers and moments:

    • Stephon Gilmore deflected a ball and was noticeably good in coverage down the field (no surprise there, but it was nice to see it in real-time).
    • Malik Jefferson also had a deflected ball down the field at one point.
    • Nahshon Wright intercepted a ball that was intended for Jalen Tolbert.
    • Both running backs Malik Davis and Ronald Jones had good speed and were getting reps with the starters. Jones had great spacial awareness when close to the sidelines as well.
    • Running back Deuce Vaughn got reps with the starters and displayed his ability to find holes and shift accordingly.
    • Defensive end Sam Williams was strong pass-rushing today and kept disrupting the pocket.
    • Defensive tackle Mazi Smith continues to plow right through the O-line.

    Star of the Show

The star of the show today was wide receiver Jalen Tolbert.

He continues to impress with his strides coming into his second season. The chemistry between him and Prescott is noticeable. Tolbert is making it difficult to count him out of the competition for the fourth wide receiver spot; he looks solid, strong, and focused.
