OXNARD, Calif. — There has been a lot of lead-up ahead of the Dallas Cowboys taking the field for the first time in training camp, from the Zack Martin holdout to opportunities for younger guys to fortify a starting spot to multiple players coming off season-ending injuries.
Today, the Cowboys practiced in helmets and protective shirts and did a mock game scenario. They will put full pads on next Monday.
Latest Practice Report From Dallas Cowboys Training Camp
Donovan Wilson and Israel Mukuamu Injuries
Update: According to ESPN’s Todd Archer Donovan Wilson could miss 4-6 weeks with a right calf strain, per a source. If this is the case Wilson would return for week one of the regular season.
Update: According to Patrik Walker with the Dallas Cowboys, Donovan Wilson is in a walking boot as a precaution. He will get an MRI done as well.
Ian Rapoport with NFL Network tweeted that his sources are saying Wilson is dealing with a calf strain, but it is not considered to be a serious injury.
During practice, safeties Donovan Wilson and Israel Mukuamu were taken to the medical tent.
According to sources, Mukuamu went to the medical tent but returned to the field after getting his leg evaluated.
As for Wilson, he was walking off the field on his own when the cart was close enough to pick him up. According to sources, this was due to a leg injury.
There is no update on either player, but we will continue to monitor this closely.
Offensive Line Updates
As expected, Zack Martin was not at practice today, so there was plenty of rotation during drills.
It is worth noting that offensive tackle Terence Steele took reps today, mostly in the right tackle position. He did have a brace on his left leg during practice.
In Martin’s absence, Josh Ball and T.J. Bass took reps at right guard.
Tony Pollard’s First Practice Back
This was the first time we have seen Tony Pollard back on the field post-surgery.
Pollard got some resistance band work on the sidelines with Michael Gallup before practice. But he went full speed on lateral drills with coaches. After practice, he said he is feeling good and healthy but is trying to be smart and work with the trainers to ease back into things.
When asked what workload he could handle now, being the starting running back, he said, “Whatever they throw at me, I’m ready to go.”
Pollard shared that Ezekiel Elliott texted him ahead of practice today, saying good luck and that he knows the running back room will “handle all of the business,” which Pollard says means a lot to him.
7-on-7 Drills
During the 7-on-7 drills, there were a few standout performers:
- Eric Scott Jr. had an interception from a ball passed to Simi Fehoko that bounced off his chest into Scott’s hands.
- Sean McKeon had a great practice and caught long passes from both Prescott and Cooper Rush.
- Jalen Tolbert was getting a fair amount of attention, even catching a pass with double coverage.
- Jalen Moreno-Cropper and Dennis Houston both had a good day and got reps with the starters.
- Sam Williams was working the edge and was quick to do so.
