    Published on

What are the latest injury updates on Stephon Gilmore and Tyler Smith as the Dallas Cowboys prepare for Wild Card Weekend?

FRISCO, TX- The Dallas Cowboys are days away from facing the Green Bay Packers in the 2023 Wild Card round.

But there are a couple of significant injuries that are surrounding the team as they are game-prepping.

    Dallas Cowboys Practice Report

The Cowboys practiced inside the Ford Center on Wednesday, as they will be playing at AT&T Stadium on Sunday. Wednesdays are the team’s typical veteran rest days, so the practice report is anticipated to reflect that.

During the time open to the media, Tyler Smith worked in team stretches and group drills with the offensive linemen. Stephon Gilmore was not seen during practice but spoke in the locker room following practice.

As for Johnathan Hankins, who is working back in after suffering an ankle injury in Week 14 and returning last Sunday against the Washington Commanders, he was seen mentoring Mazi Smith in individual drills.

Lastly, Jerry Jones was spotted watching practice on Wednesday with a camera crew following him around.

Gilmore is dealing with a shoulder injury he suffered on Sunday against the Commanders.

The cornerback said he popped his shoulder out of place, and the medical staff popped it back in during the game. Although he did not return to the game and was ruled out, he is optimistic about a return against the Packers.

After practice, he said he was feeling good and taking things “day by day” as the week goes on. This is his first time dealing with a separated shoulder, so he says the treatment he is getting from the Cowboys’ medical staff is helping him to get stronger.

Mike McCarthy said that Gilmore is “making really good progress,” but the veteran CB isn’t expected to do anything at practice until Saturday.

    Tyler Smith

As for Smith, McCarthy said he was expected to be limited at practice on Wednesday.

Smith was spotted working back into practice during the time allotted to local media.

This is coming as Smith tore his plantar fascia late in Week 17 against the Detroit Lions and didn’t play in the Cowboys’ final regular season game.

Smith did not participate in practice at all last week, so his return this week is promising.
