The Dallas Cowboys are looking to continue to improve during the offseason. Some of the moves may include bolstering protection for quarterback Dak Prescott in the final year of his deal. With running back Tony Pollard as a current free agent, it could mean adding a big name at the position.
Dallas Cowboys News Today
Former NFL safety turned executive Louis Riddick believes that adding Henry would bring legitimacy to the Cowboys‘ offseason. Riddick appeared on ESPN’s Get Up on Wednesday to offer up his opinion.
“They need an attitude back,” Riddick said. “Derrick Henry brings an attitude and makes you change or check yours.”
With Pollard’s production potentially being lost (252 carries, 1,005 yards, and six touchdowns), it could make sense to bring in someone of Henry’s caliber. He’s led the league in carries four separate times while also leading in rushing yards and touchdowns in the same two seasons. Last season, Henry had 280 carries for 1,167 yards and 12 touchdowns.
The 30-year-old workhorse has 2,030 rushes for 9,502 yards and 90 touchdowns in his career. He’s only had less than 10 rushing touchdowns in the first two years of his career.
Dallas had an eventful day in the news, so there’s much, much more where that came from.
Cowboys Free Agency Rumors: Tony Pollard Era May Not Be Over Just Yet, Insider Says
In the words of ESPN’s Lee Corso, “Not so fast, my friend!”
With all of the buzz about Henry, there’s still a possibility that Pollard comes back to suit up in a Cowboys uniform. Dallas Morning News Cowboys insider Calvin Watkins reported that Dallas is still very much entertaining the idea of a reunion with their 2022 Pro Bowl running back.
“Pollard is open to returning, even if the contract from another team is slightly higher than the Cowboys’ offer,” Watkins wrote.
Matthew Berry of NBC Sports even reported that Dallas is already looking to bring back Pollard.
“I’m told a likely landing spot for Tony Pollard is … Dallas? Yeah, apparently the Cowboys want to bring him back despite all of us thinking he had a down year,” Berry said in his NFL Combine report released on Tuesday.
The Cowboys currently have $10.6 million in salary cap space.
Former Cowboys TE Dalton Schultz Takes Shot at Dallas
Dalton Schultz played with the Cowboys for the first five years of his career before signing with the Houston Texans. Shultz was fairly productive with Dallas, catching 211 passes for 2,122 yards and 17 touchdowns.
He went on The Pat McAfee Show on ESPN to express his displeasure with the organization after re-signing with the Texans. His Texans teammates couldn’t believe some of the stories from his time with the Cowboys.
“There’s people literally going on tours while you’re lifting in the weight room,” Schultz said. “And they’ve got a one-way mirror for people to, like, look at; it’s literally, it’s a zoo, dude.”
Dallas Robinson’s 2024 NFL Mock Draft: Caleb Williams, Drake Maye Lead 6 First-Round QBs
Furthermore, one mock draft involves the Cowboys boosting their offensive line. Pro Football Network’s Dallas Robinson believes that Dallas is about to select a mountain of a left tackle by picking Georgia’s Amarius Mims.
“Amarius Mims blew up last week’s Combine, posting a 5.07 40-yard dash and a 9’3″ broad jump at 6’8″ and 340 pounds,” Robinson wrote. “A tweaked hamstring ended his day, but the Cowboys have to be intrigued by the 21-year-old Mims’ athletic upside.”
Dallas Cowboys Bring Bring Back DT Carl Davis
Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News reported that the Cowboys have re-signed nose tackle Carl Davis.
Davis, 32, has played for six teams in his career after being initially selected by the Ravens in the 2015 NFL Draft. Davis played in three games for Dallas last season after being on the practice squad and made three total tackles.
