According to a Monday morning report from ESPN’s Field Yates, Prescott will have his $59.455 million cap hit lowered by $4 million with two more void years added to help with the cap.

Dallas still has the chance to offer Prescott a long-term contract extension.

Prescott completed a career-high 69.5% of his passes and scored a league-high 36 touchdowns in what was perhaps his best season as a professional quarterback. His career-high passer rating of 105.9 was achieved with just nine interceptions.

The 30-year-old quarterback’s current contract is coming to an end after the upcoming season. Dallas now has $7,775,312 in cap space, per Over the Cap.

    Dallas Cowboys Linebacker Announces Retirement

Leighton Vander Esch suffered a neck injury in October that forced him onto injured reserve. It was the same neck injury that would end the 28-year-old former first-round selection’s career, with Vander Esch announcing his retirement on Monday.

He met with the local media to speak on the matter.

“I realize that I am no longer able to adhere to the unwavering standard of excellence that professional football demands. I say this with a heavy heart: I am medically retiring from the NFL. I love the game of football so much, and my body won’t cooperate any longer.

“I cherished every moment of my NFL career, and it has been such a blessing to play the game for as long as I have played. This year, things may look a little different for me, but the sole focus is being a great husband and father for my loving family.”

After being selected with the 19th overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft, the linebacker was electric — being named to the Pro Bowl in his first season. He’d miss seven games in 2019 and six games in 2020, before bouncing back and playing 17 games for the first time in his career in 2021.

His injuries would cause more problems, missing three games in 2022 and 12 in 2023.

Vander Esch has dealt with the injury for the majority of his playing career and wore a neck brace throughout to remedy the situation.

He suffers from spinal stenosis, an injury that causes the spaces inside of the bones of the spine to get too small. It can put pressure on the spinal cord and nerves that travel through the spine, affecting the neck or lower back. The majority of the people who suffer from the condition are over the age of 50.

Could Stefon Diggs Be a Cowboy?

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs’ cryptic social media posts make him seem disgruntled, and there’s speculation that he could ask to be traded. Diggs, 30, is a four-time Pro Bowler and a one-time All-Pro and played the first five seasons of his career with the Minnesota Vikings before being traded to the Bills.

The star has five seasons where he’s caught over 100 passes with over 1,000 yards. His 2021 and 2022 seasons held his highest touchdown total of his career with 10 and 11 touchdown receptions, respectively. The 2015 fifth-round pick has 810 catches for 9,995 yards and 67 touchdowns in his nine-year career.

Diggs’ younger brother, Trevon, already stars at cornerback for the Cowboys. Could there be a reunion in Dallas? Pro Football Network’s Nick Faria believes it’s a possibility.

“The most obvious choice of any team potentially interested in Diggs is the Dallas Cowboys,” Faria wrote. “Dallas is coming off another postseason loss in the Wild Card round and could use a dependable second option outside of CeeDee Lamb.

“Pairing Stefon with his younger brother Trevon has been something the two have teased over the years, and this could finally be the offseason it happens.”
