The Dallas Cowboys entered the offseason with many questions on what they’d do in free agency. Many questions remain, but a few pieces of news were announced.
Dallas Cowboys News Today
Despite having the league’s quietest start to free agency, barely putting themselves on the board during the legal tampering period, the Cowboys have not been without news.
Quarterback Dak Prescott has been accused of sexual assault and has since reacted, while his team remained focused on free agency. All that and more in today’s Dallas news.
Prescott Files Lawsuit After Accusation
Prescott has filed an 11-page lawsuit in Collin County, Texas, against Victoria Shores.
Prescott said Shores sent an email to a third party, Mississippi State University, Prescott’s alma mater, that she would not press charges in an alleged Feb. 2017 sexual assault if she received financial compensation.
In the letter, Shores’ attorneys, whose names are Bethel and Yoel Zehaie, wrote that she “has had to live with this pain and trauma for seven years,” via CNN. “It affected her relationship with her fiancé and her everyday existence so much that she had to attend therapy and counseling and will require future therapy and counseling. She has suffered mental anguish that is unimaginable dealing with the trauma.”
“Despite the tragic events, she is willing to (forgo) pursuing criminal charges, along with disclosing this information to the public, in exchange for compensating her for the mental anguish she has suffered,” Shores’ attorneys continued. “Ms. Shores’s damages are valued at the sum of $100,000,000.00.”
Levi McCathern, who is one of Prescott’s attorneys, vehemently denies that his client has engaged in nonconsensual sexual acts with any person.
“Lies hurt. Especially, malicious lies,” he said in a statement. “We will not allow the Defendant and her legal team to profit from this attempt to extort millions from Mr. Prescott.”
Shores stands by her claims against Prescott.
“His team is trying to label this as extortion to change the narrative,” the attorney wrote to CNN. “We sent a demand letter, which is standard in the legal practice and in sexual assault cases.”
Prescott is set to earn a base salary of $29 million with a signing bonus of $5 million this season, per Spotrac. He is in the final year of a four-year, $160 million contract.

LS Trent Sieg Re-Signs With Cowboys
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that the Cowboys are re-signing long snapper Trent Sieg. Sieg aided kicker Brandon Aubrey to the highest point total in the NFL at 157 points scored. Aubrey also was seventh in field goal percentage (94.7%) and made the fourth-longest kick of the season (60 yards) with Sieg as his long snapper.
Sieg, a 28-year-old Colorado State product, went undrafted ahead of the 2018 NFL season, signing with the Baltimore Ravens on April 28 of that year. While he competed with former Ravens long snapper Morgan Cox, he was cut following training camp on August 31, 2018.

Following his departure from Baltimore, Sieg signed a deal with the then-Oakland Raiders on September 12, 2018. He was tasked with replacing Andrew DePaola, who tore his right ACL. Sieg never looked back. It was his job to lose.
Sieg played in 80 games with Las Vegas, making five tackles (four solo) during his time with the team. The Cowboys signed Sieg on March 22, 2023, to replace former long snapper Jake McQuaide, who departed for the Detroit Lions.
Dallas Cowboys Lose Out on Derrick Henry
Dallas was looking to add a running back after Tony Pollard hit free agency.
Not only did Pollard leave to sign with the Tennessee Titans, but Saquon Barkley (Philadelphia Eagles), Josh Jacobs (Green Bay Packers), D’Andre Swift (Chicago Bears), Devin Singletary (New York Giants), and Austin Ekeler (Washington Commanders) have all agreed to sign elsewhere. Of course, these moves can’t become official until the legal tampering period ends.
The biggest domino to fall for the Cowboys was losing out on Derrick Henry. Henry agreed to a two-year, $16 million deal with the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday. Of that, $9 million is guaranteed in his first season in Baltimore
