The Dallas Cowboys just lost a running back and are in the hunt for another.
Dallas Cowboys News Today
Tony Pollard agreed to terms with the Tennessee Titans on Monday. According to The Athletic’s Diana Russini, the Cowboys were interested in bringing back Pollard before he decided on with Tennessee. Pollard had 252 carries for 1,005 yards and six touchdowns on the ground and 55 receptions for 311 yards as a receiver last season.
The 26-year-old running back was drafted by the Cowboys with the 128th overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Memphis. In five seasons in Dallas, Pollard has 762 attempts, 3,621 rushing yards, and 23 rushing touchdowns to go with 176 receptions for 1,319 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns.
Derrick Henry Free Agency Landing Spots: Remaining Suitors Include Cowboys
Pro Football Network’s Brandon Liguori has Henry as a potential fit for the Cowboys in free agency. Here’s his reasoning:
“At the start of the offseason, owner Jerry Jones alerted members of the Cowboys media he was looking at an ‘all-in’ approach,” Liguori wrote. “After yet another disappointing end to a season, do not be stunned to see Jones upgrade the roster.”
Henry has four Pro Bowls, one All-Pro selection was named the 2020 Offensive Player of the Year by both the Associated Press and Pro Football Writers of America. He has compiled 2,030 carries for 9,502 rushing yards and 90 touchdowns, along with 155 receptions for 1,458 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns in eight NFL seasons.
As for the rest of the NFC East, it’s busy. The Philadelphia Eagles “signed” former New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley to a three-year, $37.75 million contract, though it won’t become official until the legal tampering period ends. Former Los Angeles Chargers tailback Austin Ekeler found a two-year deal, worth up to $11 million with the Washington Commanders, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.
The Giants replaced Barkley with former Houston Texans starting running back Devin Singletary, who agreed to a three-year, $16.5 million deal worth up to $19.5 million, ESPN reported.

NFL Free Agency Day 1 Losers: Dallas Doesn’t Land RB
Pro Football Network’s own Lorenzo Reyna was not impressed with the Cowboys’ lack of activity in the legal tampering period.
“The Cowboys had the start of free agency week to immediately address the position,” Reyna wrote. “While Henry is yet to accept any new deals from any team, Dallas still ends up watching Pollard accept a larger deal, while the Cowboys remain with questions about their backfield room.
“This also potentially paints the picture of Jerry Jones, Mike McCarthy, and Company turning to April’s draft to fill some RB help. Still, one would think Dallas would offer a deal to talented options like Henry — who had a quiet legal tampering period day on his end.”
Maybe things could change for the Cowboys.
