Dallas Cowboys News: LB Rashaan Evans Waived a Day After Getting Arrested

    Published on

The Dallas Cowboys waived LB Rashaan Evans the day after his arrest. What's the latest update on the arrest and the team's decision?

Linebacker Rashaan Evans was waived by the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday, a day after he was arrested.

    What Happened to Rashaan Evans?

According to the Dallas Morning News, Evans was arrested for possession of 2-4 ounces of marijuana on Tuesday, Dec. 26.

The Dallas Morning News also reported that, according to a team official, the decision to waive Evans wasn’t based on the arrest since “various factors were involved.”

But the Cowboys announced Wednesday morning that Evans was being waived to activate Matt Waletzko from injured reserve.

When Mike McCarthy was asked about the decision to waive Evans, he said it came down to the health of the team and the need for depth at the tackle position.

“We’ll answer that at the end of the week. I think that’s important to be answered then. These are roster moves, and they’re tough moves. It’s a bit of a catch-22,” McCarthy said.

“When you get down to this time of year, you start to project, particularly with young players. This is why you have to make tough decisions like this. So, this really stems from being healthy.”

Evans was a first-round draft pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans, where he spent four seasons. He then went to Atlanta and spent last season with the Falcons.

After losing Leighton Vander Esch for the season, the linebacker Evans brought depth to the Cowboys’ room, working alongside Damone Clark and Markquese Bell.

Evans played nine games with the Cowboys, starting one, and played 71 defensive snaps and 79 on special teams.
