Dallas Cowboys Injury Report: Latest Update on Tyron Smith Ahead of Week 9

The latest update from Mike McCarthy and Stephen Jones on Tyron Smith's possible availability this week as the team prepares to play the Eagles.

Dallas Cowboys veteran left tackle Tyron Smith was inactive for Sunday’s win against the Los Angeles Rams.

The Latest Update on Tyron Smith

The tackle is dealing with a neck strain he suffered Wednesday at practice, and it was a game-time decision for the team to keep him inactive.

During an interview on 105.3 The Fan, Stephen Jones said Smith was close to playing on Sunday, but the team’s doctors ruled him out right before the game.

Jones said he was hopeful for Smith’s availability for Sunday’s game.

However, Mike McCarthy said Smith got treatment on Monday and probably won’t practice on Wednesday.

But the head coach said they would know more about his availability for Sunday’s game against the Eagles on Thursday.

Smith has missed three games so far this season with three different injuries.

The All-Pro tackle’s absence puts a wrench in the continuity of the starting offensive line, which has only played two games together this season.

    Update on Chuma Edoga

In Smith’s absence, Chuma Edoga filled in at left tackle and was playing well until he went down with an injury late in the game.

Although Edoga walked off the field with the help of the medical staff, he was later carted off to the locker room.

Edoga walked out of AT&T Stadium on his own power with no boot or brace.

Jones said the initial news on Edoga wasn’t as bad as initially thought, and there is a chance he could play on Sunday.

    Asim Richards Steps in

When Edoga went down, rookie tackle Asim Richards took over in the game.

Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer says Richards has “practiced his a** off” and has grown since he worked him out during Richards’ Pro Day at North Carolina.

Overall, the coordinator feels good about the depth along the line, and all of the game-time reps could benefit everyone later in the season.
