Dallas Cowboys Practice Report Ahead of Week 9
Tyron Smith and Chuma Edoga
On Friday, head coach Mike McCarthy said Tyron Smith participated in the team’s mock game on Friday and is projected to practice on Saturday. The tackle’s availability will depend on how much of a workload he takes on during that time.
Smith has been dealing with a neck injury he sustained last week at practice.
He was made unavailable for Sunday’s game against the Rams in a last-minute decision by the Cowboys’ training staff.

On Thursday, McCarthy said the goal was for Smith to participate in the walkthroughs on Thursday and Friday and to practice on Saturday.
Smith did not participate in Wednesday or Thursday’s practice.
As for Chuma Edoga, McCarthy said he progressed from Thursday to Friday and “is in the same category as Smith.”
Depending on the workload he can take on Saturday, he could be available on Sunday afternoon as well.
Edoga is dealing with an ankle sprain he sustained during Sunday’s game against the Rams and a knee injury that was added to Thursday’s practice report.
So far this week, Edoga was limited at practice on Wednesday and Thursday.
After the game, Edoga left AT&T Stadium without a walking boot and under his power.
However, if Smith or Edoga are unavailable, rookie Asim Richards would be the next available player to fill in at left tackle.
Jayron Kearse
Jayron Kearse was added to Wednesday’s injury report with a toe injury and did not participate.
But on Thursday, McCarthy said he would do more at practice and was later listed as a full participant. Kearse was seen at the portion of practice open to the media, participating in team stretches and individual drills.

Overall, McCarthy said the team is “being smart” with Kearse right now.
If Kearse isn’t available, Israel Mukuamu or Juanyeh Thomas would be viable options to secure the Cowboys’ secondary.
But, since Kearse has taken over the on-field communicating in Leighton Vander Esch’s absence, this could create a significant ripple effect if he isn’t available on Sunday.
