The Dallas Cowboys continue preparing for Sunday’s matchup against the New York Giants. A small portion of Thursday’s practice was open to the media at the beginning. Here are some of the injury observations and updates.
Dallas Cowboys Practice Report
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy moved the team’s practice time back to the early morning because of the hot weather that made feel-like temperatures over 100 degrees the day before.
“Yesterday was hot. It felt like a training camp heat-wave type practice. That was one of the hotter practices that I’ve been a part of,” said McCarthy. Moving the practice time cooled off the field by at least 20 degrees.
Tyler Smith’s Injury
During a press conference, McCarthy gave an update on Tyler Smith’s hamstring injury, saying that Smith told him he “feels really good.”
McCarthy called it a “return to play process” for Smith right now. McCarthy added that if he crosses the threshold on Saturday’s practice, he has a chance to play on Sunday.
Smith was back on the field in his first appearance at practice this week during the media’s allotted time to watch practice, working with Britt Brown on resistance ropes.

Donovan Wilson and Sam Williams Updates
Safety Donovan Wilson was not at practice on Thursday for personal reasons of welcoming a new baby to the family. It’s unclear what his status will be for Sunday’s game.
In dealing with turf toe, Sam Williams was getting more work to the side during practice. Williams also worked to the side, as McCarthy said he would continue working with Brown.
Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said safety Donovan Wilson (calf) and DE Sam Williams (turf toe) won’t practice today. Wilson is offsite with a baby to welcome. Williams will work to side with director of rehabilitation Britt Brown.

Jourdan Lewis
Jourdan Lewis was a full participant during Wednesday’s practice and got more work in on Thursday. McCarthy said Lewis is “getting close” and praised the work he has put in to be where he is after his season-ending Lisfranc injury.
