Another season, another playoff loss in the Divisional Round for the Dallas Cowboys in 2022. It has been over 27 years since the Cowboys last appeared in the NFC Championship; will this be the season they get over the hump? The Cowboys enter 2023 as one of the most talented teams on both sides of the football in the NFL, with the third-shortest betting odds to win the NFC and sixth-shortest to win the Super Bowl.

Dallas Cowboys Offense
The biggest key for this offense in 2023 will be quarterback Dak Prescott. If he can cut back on the turnovers after leading the league in interceptions last season (in just 12 games) and avoid injury for the entire season, this should be one of the more explosive units in the NFL.
The Cowboys’ offense was sixth in expected points added per play for the rest of the season after Prescott came back from injury after being 20th in his five-week absence.
RB Tony Pollard’s expanded role and the addition of WR Brandin Cooks opposite CeeDee Lamb should raise the ceiling of this offense. All-Pro guard Zack Martin, however, is currently in a contract dispute with the organization and has been holding out of training camp, but I wouldn’t expect him to miss any regular-season games.
Head coach Mike McCarthy taking over as play-caller after they let go of longtime OC Kellen Moore is this unit’s biggest question mark heading into the season. Will the offense take a step back or reach new heights with McCarthy at the helm?
Dallas Cowboys Defense
The Cowboys’ defense is a juggernaut, and it starts with their All-Pro pass rusher, Micah Parsons. After two seasons as a hybrid linebacker/defensive end, Parsons has officially made a full-time transition to being an edge rusher this season and is the betting favorite to win Defensive Player of the Year.
The team’s biggest additions to the defense were first-round pick DT Mazi Smith and veteran CB and former DPOY Stephon Gilmore. The addition of Smith should help improve a Cowboys run-defense unit that was 22nd in rushing yards per game allowed last season.
One Betting Trend To Know
According to PFN Fantasy and Betting Analyst Kyle Soppe (using Inside Edge), the Cowboys have covered eight of nine games following a loss over the past two seasons, the highest cover rate in those spots in the league.
Best Bet for the Cowboys in 2023
Wingo: Last season Dallas did something they hadn’t done since their glory days of the true 90s: have back-to-back double-digit win seasons. Now in 2023, they’re trying to make it three double-digit win seasons in a row.
Again … you have to go back to 1991-1996 when Dallas had at least 10 wins six seasons in a row. That was also their span of winning three Super Bowls in four years.
There’s going to be a lot of pressure in Dallas to get it done this year. Dak’s contract is going to be reworked one way or another after this season. Will Dan Quinn again turn down HC offers after this year like he did in 2022?
Feels like this is a make-or-break year for the Cowboys as we know them currently, and the win total at 10.5 seems potentially just out of reach. I like Cowboys under 10.5 wins.
