With training camp quickly approaching, the Dallas Cowboys are under the spotlight as quarterback Dak Prescott was spotted in a walking boot.
What’s the latest on the situation?
Dak Prescott Provides an Update on His Ankle After Seen in a Walking Boot
Everything started when Prescott was spotted in Los Cabos walking normally, but wearing a walking boot. An image was posted to X (formerly known as Twitter), which sparked curiosity from fans.

It was then reported by the Dallas Morning News that Prescott was dealing with a right foot sprain, wearing the boot for a week. NFL Media, however, said the injury is “very minor” and won’t affect his preparations for the season.
Hearing the noise about his foot, Prescott was posted by his wife, Sarah Jane, wearing the boot. The post was captioned “Just some Boot Boys in Mexico.”

Now, weeks ahead of camp, Prescott spoke to the media himself and cleared the air.
“Yeah, I’m great. Honestly, I’m getting older,” said Prescott. “It was the same ankle that I snapped and had a nasty surgery on four years ago, so yeah, a couple hard days of training, you get a little sore.
“Then, you’re going on a fishing trip, and you want to protect it and make sure things don’t get worse. Literally, it is absolutely nothing. People are reaching, trying to make things that they aren’t. I’m getting older, have to take care of my body. I have to be smart, and if I can take precautions and lessen something by putting on a boot, I’m going to do it. Sorry that I caused such a whirlwind.”
Prescott’s Contract Status Ahead of Training Camp
Coming into the offseason, Prescott’s contract situation has been a big talking point for the Cowboys.
With just one year left on his deal, which includes both a no-trade clause and a stipulation that he can’t be franchise-tagged, Prescott could walk after the season if he and Dallas can’t agree on a new contract.
In the same press conference where he spoke about his injury, Prescott also spoke about his contract situation.

“There’s been conversations back and forth, but for the most part, y’all know, I’ve been letting my agent handle all of that, especially as we get right here into training camp,” said Prescott.
“Day 1 of training camp, my mind flips to just, obviously, helping my team and doing everything I can within the organization and on the football field to make sure I’m best and everyone around me is their best, and the money and all of that will take care of itself as it always has.”

With Prescott’s leverage, he is expected to reset the quarterback market. Prescott will likely want to be in contention for the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL, if not the highest.
According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, Prescott could realistically earn $60 million per year on his next contract.
