Dak Prescott’s Dynasty Value | Fantasy Outlook, Ranking, and More

After being involved in the MVP discussion for the majority of 2023, should Dak Prescott’s dynasty value be on the rise entering his age-31 season?

Dak Prescott’s fantasy football value is ticking up after a career year that saw him clear 4,500 passing yards and 30 touchdown passes for the first time. The Dallas Cowboys have a bonafide WR1 in CeeDee Lamb, a promising TE in Jake Ferguson, and a well-above-average backfield.

With Prescott pulling the strings for an offense that should continue to thrive, does he belong to be ranked among the very best at the position?

Dak Prescott’s Dynasty Outlook

Prescott was on the MVP radar for the majority of 2023 thanks to an incredible season in terms of passer rating, completion percentage, and downfield production. He threw for multiple touchdowns in 10 of 11 games to end the regular season and showed zero hesitation in getting his alpha receiver the ball as often as humanly possible.

Lamb set franchise records in catches and receiving yards for a single season in 2023.

While his 2023 was phenomenal, it’s not as if top-shelf efficiency was something new. Over the past three seasons, no quarterback (minimum 26 regular-season starts) has a higher touchdown rate than Prescott:

That’s not bad company to keep, but Prescott’s going to have to continue to live in that neighborhood if the rushing production is a thing of the past. He was limited to five games in 2020 …

  • Four seasons prior: 3.8 carries per game, touchdown once every three games
  • Three seasons since: 3.3 carries per game, touchdown once every 11.3 games

Without projectable numbers on the ground, 2023 serves as much more of a ceiling outcome than something I’d forecast to be repeated in 2024 and beyond.

Last season, the top 12 single-game fantasy performances by a quarterback saw the signal-caller run for at least 10 yards. That was the case for 27 of the top 34 games at the position.

Should You Trade Prescott in Dynasty?

The lack of an elite ceiling puts Prescott in the tier of quarterback that I’m willing to trade, as I think very little separates QBs 9-18.

The case for trading Prescott reinforces the importance of tiering. For me, his tier is a massive one, and thus, I’m willing to cash in on his increase in value that occurred from a season that I think is unlikely to be repeated.

Prescott has produced thanks to elite volume in scoring spots. Over the past three seasons, he’s had the fourth-most red-zone pass attempts and has been second in red-zone pass TD% (trailing Tua Tagovailoa).

Could Prescott’s volume in tight regress a bit? Could the running game punch in more scores and thus take some of those fantasy opportunities off of his plate?

This looks like the perfect time to sell high on Prescott, no matter the state of your roster. Good teams can get better, and rebuilding teams can get deeper by cashing in this chip.
