With what at one time looked like a sure thing, the idea of Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys not agreeing to a new contract extension this offseason had begun to pick up steam. With an absorbent cap number that is just shy of $60 million, many had felt that the Cowboys had every incentive in the world to get a deal done to open up space.
However, while there is still plenty of time for things to change, and if you ask Prescott himself, his feelings on the matter seem unwavering despite the outside noise. The Cowboys’ QB expects a deal to get done, and he said as much to the media on Monday afternoon.
Dak Prescott Confident a Contract Extension Gets Done
Prescott spent Monday afternoon with former Cowboys great QB Troy Aikman at a Children’s cancer fund event. During that time, he had a chance to speak with some in the Dallas media. Many topics were broached, with his looming contract situation being one of them.
Prescott was clear on where he stands as it pertains to the possible extension and thinks it will all work out in the long run.
Prescott said that he is “definitely confident” that a contract extension can be reached with the Cowboys. He also added further, stating, “It helps with the team and it helps with the numbers…Everything is great. It’ll happen.”
Prescott’s words also echo the same sentiment that Stephen Jones shared last week when he was asked the same question.
“Oh yes, absolutely,” Jones started when asked if they wanted to get a contract extension done with Prescott. “Our whole thing with Dak is him being a Cowboy. That’s all that’s on our mind.”
Prescott is coming off a season where he was voted second-team All-Pro, made it to his third Pro Bowl, and led the NFL in touchdown passes with 36 while only throwing nine interceptions.
The veteran QB seemed to thrive in his first season in a Mike McCarthy-led offense. They tailored the play-calling to his strengths, and it paid off as Dallas finished 12-5 and won the NFC East crown.

Prescott and the Cowboys ultimately fell short in the NFC Wild Card round to the Green Bay Packers in embarrassing fashion. However, despite the familiar ending to a season, the production Prescott produced in the regular season is encouraging — something that the team feels worthy of building around.
All that matters is if they can take the next step with Prescott under center. Until then, both parties look set on continuing the partnership as they try and do so together.
