    Published on

After a disappointing season for the Cowboys, Dak Prescott offered a blunt message following Dallas' Week 17 blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Saying the 2024 season did not go how QB Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys expected would be quite an understatement. After doubling down on their roster construction in the offseason, injuries and players underperforming have found the Cowboys facing a losing season.

After a rough Week 17 41-7 beatdown against their NFC East rival, the Cowboys will finish the season with a losing record and will be left dreaming about missed opportunities. Talking to reporters after the drubbing, Prescott offered a blunt response to fans, “It sucks. It’s frustrating,” in regards to the Cowboys’ underwhelming season. Here’s what else the QB said.

Dak Prescott Offers Blunt Response After Dallas Cowboys’ Loss

While the Cowboys were struggling early on with Prescott under center, losing the franchise quarterback for the rest of the season after suffering a right hamstring avulsion in a Week 9 loss to the Atlanta Falcons put a damper on any postseason desires.

However, losing their franchise QB for the final nine games of the season was just one of many blows the injury bug dealt Dallas this season. Between WR CeeDee Lamb getting banged up to losing quite a few defensive starters, injuries were a major hindrance to sustaining success this season.

When asked about the Cowboys’ disappointing season after today’s embarrassing loss, Prescott bluntly explained to reporters, “Nobody plans to lose. Nobody plans to have a losing season.”

Yes, injuries have played a major part in Dallas’ struggles in 2024. However, there were signs the season was not going as expected heading into it. Despite a playoff berth in 2023, there were plenty of issues that needed to be fixed after a first-round exit in the postseason.

Between questionable coaching decisions and needing to beef up the roster in certain areas, it seemed clear the Cowboys needed to make some changes in the 2024 offseason.

Additionally, the front office stood pat in free agency, neglecting to make any major signings to improve the roster.

The most egregious example was bringing back former bell-cow RB Ezekiel Elliott to headline a rushing attack following the departure of Tony Pollard that instead should have been handed over to fourth-year RB Rico Dowdle. While the coaching staff eventually made Dowdle the feature back, the decision came a little too late.

After a 3-4 start in 2024, Dallas’ chances of clinching a playoff berth were getting bleaker with each loss. Losing Prescott and being forced to turn to Cooper Rush with nine games left to play turned out to be the final nail in the coffin.

While Prescott may be tied to Dallas for awhile after signing a four-year, $240 million contract in the 2024 offseason, there should be major changes around the Cowboys’ facilities. However, Prescott might not be too thrilled if McCarthy gets the boot. The franchise quarterback has been a vocal supporter of the Super Bowl 45-winning coach.

Yet, after coming up short again, Dallas owner Jerry Jones may finally be ready to make some serious changes. He has faced a fair bit of criticism from fans and the media for his responsibility in failing to meet expectations this season.

While there’s still one week left in the season, it will be interesting to see what changes are in store for the Cowboys in the upcoming offseason.
