The NFL informed teams today that the 2025 per-team salary cap will increase from previous years. According to NFL insider Dan Graziano, the NFL informed teams that the 2025 per-team salary cap will fall between $277.5 million and $281.5 million, way up from last year’s $255.4 million. Also, the 2025 salary cap will increase by over $53 million from the previous two years.
At its core, the NFL salary cap limits how much each team can pay players on its roster in a given season. Free agent signings, trades, draft picks, and waiver claims affect the NFL salary cap, acting as a guardrail for front offices league-wide.
The collective bargaining agreement between the NFL and the NFL Players Association mandates that owners and players split the league’s revenue. Historically, ownership has received a slightly larger share of the pie — players currently earn 48% of the profits. Dallas Cowboys EDGE Micah Parsons is excited about the profits players can tap into — will it manifest with his new contract?

With the salary cap increase, Parsons’ chances of landing a record-breaking deal improved. What are the chances the Cowboys get Parsons’ deal down before NFL free agency starts on March 12?
While Parsons seems excited about the possibility of a new deal, his brother, Terrence, sent a much more concerning message regarding Parsons’ future in Dallas. Responding to a tweet asking what percent chance the Cowboys sign Parsons to a new deal before the start of free agency, Terrence answered: “0.”

According to sources, Parsons and the Cowboys have not progressed on his contract talks this offseason. Even though there is little progress, Parsons feels confident that the two sides can ultimately agree on a new deal.
The Cowboys’ star defensive player has a strong relationship with owner Jerry Jones and is confident an agreement will be made. With this 2025 NFL salary cap bump, perhaps Parsons and the Cowboys can expedite their contract negotiations before free agency opens up.
