Unpacking the Rumors of Dak Prescott Playing for Another Team in 2025

    Published on

Could Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott really be under center somewhere else in 2025? One NFL insider believes it's possible.

It’s safe to say that the 2023 NFL season did not end the way Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys were hoping it would. After finishing with their third straight 12-5 regular-season record and Prescott bouncing back after a tough 2022 season to put himself in the MVP conversation, the Cowboys’ season ended familiarly.

Dallas was beaten in the Wild Card round by the young, but talented Green Bay Packers in embarrassing fashion. With there being more questions than answers surrounding this Cowboys team, could this be the beginning of the end for Dak as a Cowboy? One NFL insider seems to think it’s possible.

NFL Insider Floats Idea of Dak Prescott Playing Elsewhere in 2025

According to Dan Graziano of ESPN, it’s not out of the realm of possibilities to see Prescott suiting up elsewhere in 2025.

“I do believe there is such a world where he ends up on a different team in 2025,” Graziano said on ESPN’s Get Up on Wednesday morning.

Anytime you talk about the Cowboys, it’s going to draw attention. And in this case, it certainly is a comment that raised a few eyebrows.

On the surface, it would be a massive shake-up, but it’s far less of a crazy thought than it might’ve been just a month ago before another playoff collapse. Cowboys fans are fed up, owner Jerry Jones is talking about going all-in, and with the idea of Prescott’s contract becoming a real conversation going forward, 2024 could be a prove-it year for all parties involved.

Can Prescott Take It Up a Notch?

Prescott just completed his eighth NFL season, one in which he had the best statistical output of his career — finishing with 4,516 passing yards, 36 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.

Yet, as good as the numbers are in the regular season, with Dak under center, the Cowboys still haven’t been able to get beyond the NFC Divisional Round.

With a bloated salary for Prescott in 2024 (around $60 million for the season), Dallas has options they will need to sort out regarding Prescott and his future.

The Cowboys have long stated they intend to extend Dak, but as time goes on without that extension in place, the noise of his future will only grow louder.

The offseason has only just begun for the Cowboys, but a lot of what they do in the coming months will paint a clearer picture of whether what Graziano said is just a thought or a plan of action.
