Jerry Jones has had a tough couple of weeks at the office. He lashed out at head coach Mike McCarthy after a 47-9 loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 6 and now has his starting cornerback, Trevon Diggs, having a verbal altercation with an NFL reporter.
Jerry Jones Calls Trevon Diggs’ Scuffle an ‘Emotional Burst’
The Dallas Cowboys owner had his trademark approach as he came forward to address Diggs’ confrontation with WFAA reporter Mike Leslie. The dust-up occurred after the Cowboys’ tough 30-24 loss to the 49ers, where Leslie took to X questioning Diggs’ effort in chasing down tight end George Kittle.

Not one to hold back, Diggs saw the tweet, found Leslie in the tunnel, and spoke his mind as he found his way towards the locker room. However, the 26-year-old CB accepted later on a podcast with Micah Parsons that emotions got the better of him.
Jones downplayed the incident on Tuesday in his weekly radio appearance on Shan & RJ. He didn’t fuel the fire by stressing that such emotions are natural in games, especially when the team’s having a bad season. The Cowboys have lost their previous two games, and this is when athletes go the extra mile just to see their team win, often letting emotions take the lead.
“They’re focused on they’re disappointed that they didn’t make a play or that they are more aware than anybody about what they might not have done – where they busted an assignment, could have made a play. It doesn’t surprise me at all. I have absolutely no commotion with dealing with emotion,” Jones said.
“Now, we all realize we need to, if you will, bite your lip where you need to. To that end, you want to not overdo it… The bottom line is this is an emotional game, and it doesn’t alarm me in any way to see the manifestation of emotion,” he continued.

He defended Diggs’ passion for the game and didn’t emphasize that the heated moment wasn’t a sign of misplaced focus but rather an honest reaction to the disappointment of missing a key play.
In classic Jones fashion, he even chuckled when the “deez n**s” comment was mentioned, admitting with a grin that he wasn’t entirely familiar with the term or the context. “If you want to know what it looks like, I’m sitting here with a half smirk,” Jones quipped.
