Could Shedeur Sanders Replace Dak Prescott as Cowboys’ Starting Quarterback? NFL Analyst Floats the Idea
While he won’t be available until the 2025 NFL Draft, Deion’s son Shedeur is already a highly touted quarterback. According to Harry Douglas on ESPN’s First Take, the Cowboys should try and get Shedeur to be their quarterback of the future after Prescott leaves in 2025.
“Molly [Qerim], let me shake things up a little bit,” Douglas said. “Because I know we’re talking about the 2024 NFL Draft, but let’s move on to the 2025 NFL Draft because I know one thing about Coach Prime: He ain’t hard to find, baby.
Deion played for the Cowboys during his legendary career and recently said his son “may pull an Eli [Manning]” and choose where he wants to go.
“And what if Jerry Jones in 2025 says, ‘You know what, I’m just going to jump everybody, and I am going to leverage what I need to leverage to go get Shedeur Sanders, ladies and gentlemen.’ Coach Prime ain’t hard to find,” Douglas said.
It wasn’t just Douglas either, former NFL star Ryan Clark also said it. “With their first-round pick of 2025 draft the Dallas Cowboys select … Shedeur Sanders,” Clark said on the Pivot Podcast.

In 2024 free agency, the Cowboys lost long-time starting left tackle Tyron Smith to the Jets. As a result, the Cowboys now have a hole on the offensive line. In a recent mock draft, the Cowboys got their guy.
At pick No. 24, the Cowboys selected Olumuyiwa Fashanu, an offensive tackle out of Penn State. He’s an unlikely candidate later in the draft, but someone falls every year, and in this case, it’s him.

Could the Cowboys Take Michael Penix Jr.?
While Sanders won’t be available until the 2025 NFL Draft, some quarterbacks will be available in 2024 later in April. Former NFL general manager Mike Tannenbaum suggested that the Cowboys should take Michael Penix Jr. in the first round.
“Brett Favre was in the prime of his career when Aaron Rodgers fell, and they took him … I think that Dak Prescott’s better, but I’m hard-pressed to say that any of us think that he’s $52 million-per-year better than Penix,” Tannenbaum said.
