The record-breaking Myles Garrett extension with the Cleveland Browns left everyone in shock. Not only NFL fans and the media but even players in the league were left bamboozled. After all, over the last few weeks, it felt like a near certainty that Garrett could be on his way out of the Rock & Roll capital of America.
His initial trade demand and owner Jimmy Haslam’s reluctance to meet him a few days before free agency began really put the relationship into perspective. The deal then arriving out of nowhere shocked everyone and even left Micah Parsons confused.

Micah Parsons in Shock After Myles Garrett Contract Extension
It wasn’t just the contract itself but the sheer size and impact of it. News dropped of the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year and the Browns coming to an agreement on a four-year deal worth $160 million. That equates to a $40 million annual average value.
Simply put, it makes Garrett the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history. After six All-Pro and Pro Bowl selections since coming into the league in 2017, the worth Garrett brings to Cleveland is undeniable. Apart from his rookie season, he’s been good for double-digit sacks every year of his career, even when he plays in just ten games like 2019.
However, Micah Parsons is another linebacker in line for a massive extension this offseason. With the Dallas Cowboys giving every indication (freeing up money by restructuring Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb’s contracts) that a move is on the horizon, this Garrett news might reset the market.
And Parsons understands the implications, taking to X to simply write, “Lol yooo wtf,” alongside a laughing emoji. During his four-year career, Parsons has been a guarantee for 12 sacks every season at a minimum and has made the Pro Bowl every season.
Lol yooo wtf 😂

Additionally, he also has three All-Pro selections under his belt, making him one of the best defenders in the game today.
However, the Garrett deal reset the market. Dallas, which already has the highest-paid quarterback and the second-highest-paid wide receiver in the league, might not be able to support a top-of-the-line linebacker.
As a result, a potential trade could even be in the works, as reported by Jordan Schultz. While nothing remains certain, it has put a bigger emphasis on an already major storyline for the offseason involving Parsons and the Cowboys.
