Cowboys Legend Reveals Deion Sanders’ True Intentions for Brushing Off NFL Head Coaching Rumors

Deion Sanders is one of the hottest names in college football right now. The Colorado head coach has been working wonders with his program, getting them not only into Big 12 championship contention but also into college football playoff discussion.

However, the 57-year-old doesn’t seem ready to make the jump to the NFL. His former teammate and Dallas Cowboys legend Michael Irvin recently revealed his hypothesis as to why Coach Prime continues to deny his interest in coaching an NFL team.

Michael Irvin Adamant Deion Sanders Will Come to the NFL

After the Cowboys lost their fourth straight game of the season earlier this week, many heads turned towards Sanders to potentially be Mike McCarthy’s replacement. However, the two-time Super Bowl winner reiterated his interest in staying at Colorado.

“Let me take the computer here, because you’re starting to talk that talk. I got to show you where I am. I love it where I am,” Sanders said.

Irvin played five seasons with Sanders and understands his motivations. During his appearance on the Come And Talk 2 Me podcast, Irvin revealed this strategy would fetch Sanders more money than Jerry Jones.

“Deion is smart,” said Irvin. “His focus is on what he’s doing right now. He knows the more he says the more they keep adding zeros, you see.”

McCarthy is in the last season of his deal, which was not renewed this offseason. With a record of 3-6, only a miracle could take them to the playoffs. In fact, Pro Football Network’s playoff predictor currently gives them a whopping 1% chance of making the postseason.

With the way this year has gone, it is more than likely that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will look to hire a new head coach for the franchise next season.

Sanders in Pole Position to Take Over the Cowboys

Despite Sanders rejecting theories of him potentially linking up with his old team, the murmurs haven’t died down. Former New York Giants head coach Rex Ryan, like Irvin, believes that move is bound to happen.

“Deion Sanders may be in play here,” Ryan said during his appearance on ESPN’s Get Up. “They need something. They need to have somebody that has the pride in that organization.

“Being a Dallas Cowboy, the pride you take in it, and by the way, Deion everywhere he’s been, has been kicking you know what,” he added.

With this season basically over thanks to Dak Prescott’s hamstring injury and a terrible 3-6 record, most fans have already turned to 2025. Could Sanders now be in that picture? Only time will tell. However, with Sanders’ massive contract in Colorado, it is going to take quite a bit of dollar signs to convince the college coach to make the leap.

Luckily for the Cowboys, Jones is the seventh richest owner in the NFL and has never been shy when it comes to opening the checkbook. Unless it is for curtains that is.
