Cowboys Legend Gives Surprising Super Bowl Prediction for Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs

One Dallas Cowboys legend predicted Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl chances ahead of Wild Card Weekend.

The 2024 NFL postseason will kick off with the Los Angeles Chargers taking on the Houston Texans on Saturday. Predictions and debates continue to flow as we approach Super Bowl LIX. Patrick MahomesKansas City Chiefs and Jared Goff’s Detroit Lions will get a bye in the Wild Card round after clinching the No.1 seed in their respective conferences.

The Chiefs have their sights set on the three-peat. They can become the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls in NFL history. While many believe the reigning champions will defend their championship in New Orleans, Dallas Cowboys legend Michael Irvin thinks otherwise.

Both the Chiefs and the Lions finished the regular season with a 15-2 record. Andy Reid’s side could have made it 16-1, but they rested their key players in the season finale against the Denver Broncos.

Jared Goff’s Lions, on the other hand, won a crucial game against the Minnesota Vikings to secure the No.1 seed in the NFC.

The Cowboys legend shared his take on the situation during his appearance on Fox Sports’ “SpeakOnFS1.” Show host Joy Taylor defended Kansas City’s chances to win the Super Bowl.

“I think it’s crazy. I guess the Lions have had more dominant wins but the Chiefs have been consistent since Week 1. And it’s still Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes! I know we get excited about something new when the Lions aren’t necessarily new, they were in the NFC Championship Game last year,” she said.

Taylor pointed at the Super Bowl odds and seemed surprised about Irvin picking the Lions over the Chiefs.

“The best chance they [the Chiefs] had went out the window when this Super Bowl was played in New Orleans,” Irvin said.

“They’re going to finish this thing in a dome. The Detroit Lions will play all the way in a dome. The best chance the Chiefs had was to get them outside. They won’t see them outside,” he added.

Irvin picked the Lions as the scariest team in the playoffs on the same show earlier this season.

“For me, it’s Detroit [the scariest team]. When we say scary, I think about how many different ways can you beat me, and they can beat you in so many different ways, and no matter what you take away, they find a way to beat you,” the Hall of Fame WR said.

“This guy [Jared Goff] had five interceptions, they still won the game. He throws five TDs, they win the game. He has an OK game yesterday, third-worst passer rating at 80, they still win the game,” he went on.

The two sides are likely to put up a cracker of a fight if they meet in the postseason.
