What Did Jones Old Video Reveal About His QB Preference?

In many respects, the 2024 season has been a failure by the recent standards set by Jones and the Cowboys franchise. Last season, despite the early playoff exit, the Cowboys finished as the No. 2 seed in the NFC with a 12-5 record, a record they finished with for the third season in a row.

This year, however, the Cowboys have seen numerous key injuries, bad coaching/management decisions, and poor quarterback play derail their season. At 5-7 and 12th place in the NFC, it is highly unlikely the Cowboys make the playoffs this campaign.

During an interview with ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith, Jones explained how he prefers having a proven talent at the most important position on the football field.

“It is not a one-year alternative, it is a several-year alternative,” Jones stated in relation to how young QBs generally need adequate time to develop to the professional game.

Despite this, things change extremely quickly in the NFL and there is a possibility that the QB talent and familial names associated with potential draft picks could make Jones change his stance.

Will Jones Consider a Rookie QB Given the Upcoming Draft Talent?

Within the next two seasons, it is expected that Shedeur Sanders, the son of Prime Time Deion Sanders, and Arch Manning, the grandson of Archie Manning and nephew of Eli and Peyton Manning, will be drafted into the NFL.

In recent days, rumors have begun circulating that both Deion and Archie have their sights set on their relative being drafted by the Cowboys. When asked about where he would like to see his grandson play in the NFL, the elder Manning mentioned Dallas as a destination, after a lengthy career at Texas, of course.

While it remains to be seen whether Jones would change his previously outlined QB philosophy to draft Sanders or Manning, it is clear from the reports that both Deion and Archie see the Cowboys as a strong fit for their respective family members when they eventually enter the NFL Draft.
