With Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy reaching the end of his contract while the team has a record of 3-6, it is highly unlikely that Jerry Jones will renew it.
With McCarthy being on the hot seat, there are many prospects whose names are coming up for the Cowboys HC job, including Colorado Buffaloes head honcho Deion Sanders, Bill Belichick, and more.
One of the latest additions to the candidate’s list is former Cowboys tight end Jason Witten.
Jerry Jones Backs Jason Witten’s Ability To Coach in the NFL
During his latest 105.3 The FAN appearance, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones heaped praise on his former tight end when asked if he could ever coach in the NFL.
While talking about Witten’s potential future as an NFL head coach, Jones said, “Yes. Without hesitation. Yes. He has something that you can’t draw up. He reminds me a lot of our other tight end who is head coach up there in Detroit right now (Dan Campbell).
“Jason is very sophisticated when it comes to understanding football and all the nuances. But more important than anything, he really does understand the physical and the mentality of being physical and that part of it. Without a question, he could become (an NFL coach). He has extraordinary work ethic. … He can be a top coach.”

Witten currently works at the Argyle Liberty Christian High School, where he coaches his two sons.
The former Cowboys tight end was an 11-time Pro Bowler and a two-time first-team All-Pro while also having the record of having the most receiving yards (12,977 yards) and catches (1,215).
While Witten’s ties to the Cowboys go way back, the franchise fans were worried when they heard Jones’ comments, as it might mean something he’s talking about their potential new head coach.
“Oh no Jason Witten is our next coach isn’t he” one fan said.
“Holy shit it’s really gonna happen,” another fan said.
“Witten is nothing like Dan Campbell and to say so is an insult. Witten is Tony Dungy, calm, cool and strategic. Dan is a cheap shot bounty gate turd,” another fan added.
