After a long search for their head coaching position, the Dallas Cowboys announced they’re hiring Brian Schottenheimer as Mike McCarthy’s replacement.
Schottenheimer served as the Cowboys’ offensive coordinator, and his hiring was not well-received by various analysts and fans. They were expecting Jones to hire someone from the outside with a fresh perspective. Instead, he promoted someone already in the system that was struggling.
Former Cowboys star Michael Irvin did not appreciate this decision.
NFL Fans React to Michael Irvin’s Rant About Brian Schottenheimer’s Hire
Many names were swirling in the NFL world for the Cowboys’ head coaching position, like Kellen Moore, Robert Saleh, Leslie Frazier, and Pete Carroll.
One of the more popular names from the mix was Deion Sanders, whose son Shedeur Sanders is projected to be a first-round pick. Some were even expecting the father-son duo to be a package deal.
After Schottenheimer’s hire, the former Cowboys star went on an unfiltered rant and said that the franchise lost an opportunity and expressed his disappointment with Jones’ decision.
Irvin further discussed how the team’s rivals are moving ahead and gearing up for milestones, like the Commanders and the Eagles that went against each other in the NFC Championship.
“Our enemies are on all fronts, and they’re holding a position that we haven’t held in 30 f***ing years, the longest drop by any NFC team period. 30 years. I did a little letter of speak to Jerry Jones, where I was delivering information in a bullsh***ing way, but I was not lying.
“You bring in someone that was already inside as the head coach. You lose things there that you can’t grab back, that I’m worried about,” Irvin said on the Schottenheimer decision.

Fans wholeheartedly agreed to what Irvin said about Jones and the Cowboys.
“The full video is fire, ‘I do know where this comes from’ is so powerful, but also so helpless like the rest of us Stephen jones malpractice of this team has finally tipped the scale on a lot of fans,” one fan commented.
“Man Jerry got 88 cursing on camera about the boys. It’s dark days right now lord I didn’t think it could get worse than 2015,” another fan pointed out.
“If Jerry Jones has lost Michael Irvin, you know it’s a problem in Dallas..” another fan wrote.
“Yah ain’t say s**t about Deion until there was a hire. Stop BSn. I’m sick of that clout s**t yah got but don’t really speak yahs mind on the platforms,” another fan added.
“It’s gonna be a long dreadful season…f**k,” another fan boldly predicted.
Alongside Schottenheimer, Jones is also close to hiring former Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus as their new defensive coordinator, who has already spent some time with the Cowboys in the past.
