‘Talk About Delusional’ — Cowboys Fans Furious After Jerry Jones Says He Gives Mike McCarthy, Mike Zimmer ‘High Grades’ This Season

The latest comments from owner Jerry Jones about head coach Mike McCarthy and defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer made Cowboys fans lose it.

The 2024-25 season has been a disaster for the Dallas Cowboys. After three straight 12-or-more-win seasons, the team only has a 1.7% chance of making the playoffs. However, the squad’s mismanagement began long before they first took the field in September.

During the offseason, their inability to acquire a decent RB, alongside massive extensions to CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott (which made the latter the highest-paid player in league history) has submarined the Cowboys’ season. They are 6-8 and barely hanging onto playoff aspirations.

However, where team owner and GM Jerry Jones is concerned, the performance of his coaches and coordinators hasn’t been all bad. Unfortunately, like most comments from Jones, the reactions from fans were immediate and inflammatory.

Fans Tear Down Jerry Jones’ Comments

Speaking about the work that head coach Mike McCarthy and defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer have done this year, Jones was rather appreciative: “I give them both high grades this year.”

While most fans are clamoring for a coaching change, the comments from Jones come across as peculiar. For months now, fans and media alike have questioned if McCarthy is on the hot seat, with names like Mike Vrabel, Deion Sanders, and Bill Belichick (before UNC) in the discussion as possible replacements.

Unfortunately, Jones’ comments did not sit right with the fan base. His comments were seen as “delusional” by some, while others were outright questioning, “What the hell is he talking about?!??”

For some, the sad state that Cowboys fans had to go through was enough to cause pity for them. “Holy crap how many other DC fans are ready to just completely call it quits on this absolute poverty franchise.”

Others had a similar opinion, with many calling Jones’ own role in the situation into question.

“There is absolutely nothing to look forward to with the Jones family at the helm. I’m clinging to the tiny bit of hope that Stephen Jones will be different. What a travesty for the fans. Permanent purgatory.”

But the most horrifying thought for fans in Dallas was what the comments could mean. Despite rumors of a possible coaching change, it looks like Jones is content with the current core in place. As a result, “It sounds like the coaching staff and Mike will be returning next year, unfortunately.”

With the situation in Dallas looking like it might stay status quo, it remains to be seen how long the show can go on like this. Once America’s Team, the Cowboys have quickly fallen out of favor with fans, instead serving as the proverbial chokers every season.

While they remain atop franchises with the most net worth, the success on the field for Dallas has been lacking postseason hardware. It’s been nearly 30 years since the Cowboys last won a Super Bowl, and fans in Big D are starting to get restless.
