Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is not afraid of making headlines. He was in the news once again on Friday when the Cowboys promoted their offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer, to their head coaching position.
However, with Schottenheimer becoming the head coach, the Cowboys now need a new offensive coordinator, and they have been linked to Atlanta Falcons tight end coach Kevin Koger. Fans weren’t sure how to feel about the rumblings.
Cowboys Pursuing Falcons TE Coach Kevin Koger
The Cowboys need a new offensive coordinator, and fans are anxious to find out who that might be. On Sunday, NFL insider Tom Pelissero broke some news about their offensive coordinator search, reporting that Jones and the Cowboys requested to interview Falcons tight end coach Kevin Coger for the position.
With this news coming out, fans reacted on X, and the opinions were mixed.

“If they made this sort of hire hopefully it’s in title only… not sure he has much pedigree to be the 100% owner of the offense and playcaller,” one fan commented.
“Jerry took one look at Kyle Pitts 2024 season and said ‘i need the guy coaching him to run my offense’ What a joke the once mighty Cowboys have become,” one fan added.

“Isn’t this the guy who coaches Kyle Pitts, and we’ve seen how bad he’s been,” one fan commented.
“They should call Ohio State and ask to interview Brian Harrline for their OC position. What he’s done with the WR’s in that program is phenomenal,” one fan added.

Many fans brought up the fact that Koger is the person who has coached Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts for the past few seasons. Pitts has had an underwhelming career after being drafted with the fourth pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. In 2024, Pitts had 47 receptions for 602 yards and a career-high four TDs.
Many fans are blaming Koger for the disappointing start to Pitts’ career, but it is unclear how much blame he deserves for the tight end’s struggles. Koger does not go out on the field and play, he only coaches. If one player fails, it is not necessarily an indication that a coach has done a poor job.
Regardless, Cowboys fans are nervous since Koger is unproven and the player most associated with his position group in Atlanta has struggled.
Expect the Cowboys to interview a number of other candidates for their offensive-coordinator vacancy before making a hire.
