Stephen Jones is all about loyalty in Big D, and he’s got Micah Parsons’ back. The Dallas Cowboys executive vice president is throwing support behind his star linebacker, who’s apparently open to taking a discount for a new contract. With the “we want guys who want to be here” mentality, Jones is praising Parsons for his team-first approach.
In a world where players usually cash in, Parsons is bucking the trend. Looks like the team might just keep their defensive stud at a hometown discount — now that’s some big-time loyalty.
Micah Parsons’ Unselfish Contract Move Gets Stephen Jones’ Nod
NFL insider Jon Machota dropped the news on X: Jones gave a glowing endorsement to Parsons’ approach to his contract extension talks, which might just be the most unselfish move we’ve seen this offseason.
During an interview on 105.3 The Fan, Jones said, “If you can get ahead of (these big contracts), you want to get ahead of them. Hats off to Micah. I’ve seen some of the comments that he’s made. (He’s) had conversations with Jerry (Jones) and I. That’s what we want. We want guys who want to be here.”
Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones on @1053thefan on Micah Parsons’ recent comments about not needing to be the NFL’s highest-paid defensive player and wanting to work with the Cowboys to keep as many free agents as possible:
“If you can get ahead of (these big contracts), you want to…

And Parsons? He’s not trying to break the bank. Sure, the star LB knows his value, but he’s all about building a Super Bowl-winning roster.
“It would be nice to be surrounded by good players. Players are going to help you win championships. I want to keep as many guys as possible… I don’t need $40 million per year. I need to be somewhere where I can have a lake house,” he said, keeping things humble while still recognizing his star power. Unlike some players who aim for that top-tier payday, Parsons wants to keep the core together, even if it means taking a slight pay cut.
The Cowboys, though, face a tricky decision. They’ve already handed big contracts to Dak Prescott, Trevon Diggs, and CeeDee Lamb.
But Parsons is giving them an opening — he’s not looking for an outlandish deal. This could make the contract negotiation smoother, allowing the Cowboys to lock down their defensive dynamo and keep their championship dreams alive without burning a hole in the salary cap.
As Parsons continues to reshape expectations, Big D now has a unique opportunity. The ball’s in their court; let’s see if they can make stuff happen.
Parsons Warns SMU: Get Ready for the Brutal Cold in State College
Parsons isn’t holding back when it comes to warning SMU about their upcoming challenge against Penn State in the College Football Playoff. The proud Penn State alum made it clear: the weather in State College is going to be a rude awakening for the SMU squad.
“They should expect that cold weather,” Parsons said, hinting at the brutal conditions ahead. “It’s nice, it’s sunny, chill here [in Dallas] right now. But when they get up to State College in December, oooeee. They’ve got a rude awakening.” With a 27-degree kickoff and flurries expected, it’s shaping up to be a serious toughness test.

Parsons, a two-season Nittany Lion, also called out the tough, physical grind of Big Ten football. “It’s football weather,” he emphasized. “That’s the difference between the Big Ten and all these other fancy schools. The Big Ten got the best backs, too.”
SMU has been warned — this won’t be just a game, it’ll be a battle of grit in freezing temperatures.
