The son of Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, quarterback Shedeur Sanders has led the Buffaloes to a shocking 3-0 start. Despite their success, Deion Sanders made headlines this past week after joking that neither of his sons was going to the NFL after this season, leading many to speculate about both of the Sanders’ NFL futures.

Sanders has the NFL world abuzz with his play so far this season, and many are speculating that Sanders could be a high first-round pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.
Shedeur Sanders’ NFL Draft Stock
Sanders has become one of the biggest players in college football virtually overnight.
After a breakout performance against TCU in Week 1, Sanders has made several highlight-reel plays that have him firmly in the Heisman conversation. Sanders is arguably the biggest reason why Colorado is 3-0 to start the season.
Sanders’ electric start to the season has scouts buzzing, and many are planting him firmly at the top of this draft. However, Sanders has been playing at this high a level for years, and his quick adjustment to the Power Five is impressive.
After winning the Jerry Rice FCS National Freshman of the Year award, Sanders earned SWAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2022.
He completed 70.6% of his passes while throwing for 3,732 yards, scoring 40 touchdowns and only six interceptions. Sanders also finished as a Finalist for the Walter Payton Award for Best FCS Player in 2022.
Now, after numerous accolades and two SWAC championships, Sanders is eligible for the NFL Draft as a true junior in the 2023 season. Sanders has made the most of his eligibility so far and is looking to continue his hot start to 2023.
Sanders’ Eligibility
Despite all of the NFL attention, Sanders is eligible to return and play for Colorado next season. It’s entirely possible that Sanders would want to continue playing for his dad as long as he can and then declare the following season, joining teammate Travis Hunter, who cannot declare for the draft until the end of the 2024 season.
While it is hard to resist the call of the NFL, all the attention of both his play and his dad has brought significant advantages to Sanders that other quarterbacks haven’t had in their decision-making process.
