The Los Angeles Rams have officially parted ways with Cooper Kupp, the Triple Crown winner, after announcing their decision to move on from him after the season. Kupp, a third-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, had expressed a desire to stay in Los Angeles.
However, the Rams released the 2021 Offensive Player of the Year—who now vows that his best football is still ahead of him.

Cooper Kupp Sends Bold Message After Becoming Free Agent
Kupp was a cornerstone of Sean McVay’s offense since arriving in 2017, earning the receiving Triple Crown in 2021 with 145 receptions, 1,947 yards, and 16 touchdowns, leading to a Super Bowl win.
However, injuries have impacted Kupp over the past three seasons. After ranking second in EPA per target among qualified receivers from 2021-22, Kupp dropped to 45th out of 51 in the past two years. His red-zone usage has also declined, raising questions about his ability to perform in high-leverage situations as he ages, ultimately ending in his release.
Despite the struggles, the change of scenery could spark a revival for Kupp, who insists that his best is yet to come.
“Next chapter starts now. Best is yet to come,” he wrote at the end of his farewell note after expressing gratitude to Los Angeles.
“Eight years of incredible memories. We talked often about the Rams being back in LA and how we would grow to be something special here. And there was frustration early on around getting the buy in from the people of LA. But we knew at the end of the day, it’s about providing moments. Shared experiences. The things that parents and their children will talk about and remember forever.
“That is what makes the ending of these last eight years so difficult. It’s the ending of something we have enjoyed building with you. Thank you for these shared moments. Thank you LA for welcoming my family with open arms and allowing us to grow here.”

Battling through injury setbacks, Kupp has still managed to post more than 700 receiving yards each of the past three seasons, with 17 touchdowns in that span—just one more than he scored in 2021 alone. Kupp remains confident in his abilities and is determined to make a comeback.
“I said at the beginning of last year that if I didn’t believe I could play football at a very high level — at a level where I see myself doing the things I want to do — I don’t want to be playing football anymore,” Kupp told Los Angeles Times in an interview.

He’s not planning a swan song season. Kupp has his eyes on a long-term future, saying, “And I can still do it. I want to do it for four more years at least, and I plan to be playing at a high level. That’s just where I see myself. When I see myself on film, I’m progressing. Things are moving forward.”
While Kupp’s next team remains uncertain, his focus and drive to succeed are as clear as ever.
