College football‘s most famous show meets one of its most passionate rivalries in Week 6 as College GameDay hits the road and heads to Dallas for the Red River Rivalry. The signature Saturday show will build up to kickoff at the Cotton Bowl ahead of undefeated Oklahoma taking on 4-1 Texas in the all-Big 12 shootout.
Where will College GameDay be in Week 6?
- Location: Dallas, TX
- College Stadium: Cotton Bowl
- Start time: 9 AM ET
- Cast: Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Desmond Howard, Rece Davis
When you consider the Week 6 schedule, it seemed almost inevitable that College GameDay would be live from the Cotton Bowl. Given that both Arkansas and Ole Miss lost this weekend, that Week 6 clash lost some of its allure.
College GameDay could have taken its first trip to Kinnick Stadium since 2006 had they chosen to feature undefeated Iowa and Penn State. However, the Hawkeyes have already appeared on College GameDay this season when they played Iowa State in Ames.
This won’t be the first time College GameDay has made the Red River Rivalry its home. Oklahoma and Texas have dueled it out six times with College GameDay in attendance, with the last time coming in 2018.
In that game, Texas beat their bitter rivals 48-45 thanks to a last-minute field goal from Cameron “The Kicker” Dicker. Nevertheless, the series is split 3-3 when the two teams have battled with the GameDay crew on site.
Something will have to give when the two teams meet on College GameDay in Week 6. Oklahoma has appeared on the show 38 times, with a .658 winning record. Meanwhile, Texas has made just 17 appearances. The Longhorns also have a winning record, earning victories in 10 of those contests.
Lee Corso’s headgear picks
One of the most endearing elements of College GameDay is Lee Corso’s headgear picks. The only remaining original member of the show’s crew from its inception in 1987, Corso has been making picks using mascot headgear since 1996.
He got that very first pick — Ohio State over Penn State — right, and he’s since compiled a 246-126 winning record. That includes correctly selecting Georgia over Arkansas this past weekend. Despite superstitions that his picks are a curse on the team he chooses, Corso’s 66% win rate is pretty impressive.
Corso is 5-1 this season after incorrectly choosing Alcorn State over North Carolina Central in the opening College GameDay of the season.
The last time Oklahoma appeared on College GameDay, Corso correctly predicted they would beat Oklahoma State. However, the last time the two teams contested the Red River Rivalry on College GameDay, Corso incorrectly projected an Oklahoma win over Texas. The Longhorns will happily have him put “the curse” on the Sooners again this coming Saturday.
