Former Oregon WR Troy Franklin did not test quite as fast as scouts would’ve hoped for at the NFL Combine.
While Franklin was exceptionally productive during his three years in college, his performance at the Combine did not do any favors for him. Here is more on this athletic testing.
Troy Franklin’s NFL Combine Performance
If there’s one wide receiver who saw his draft stock go down at the NFL Combine, it’s Franklin. He ran slower than anticipated, came in lighter than expected, and put together rough performances in some of the on-field drills at the Combine.
Regardless, Franklin still has plenty of potential in the league, and the expectation has been that Franklin would be an early-round NFL Draft pick since he first came out of Menlo-Atherton High School as a high four-star recruit.
How Fast Is Franklin?
The Oregon receiver ran a 4.41-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. Oregon fans would’ve loved to see Franklin post a sub-4.4 40-yard dash time, but Franklin’s time is still impressive.

In his pass-catching drills, Franklin had some ups and downs. In his gauntlet drill, he dropped a pass, but he fared much better catching passes while running routes during the QB workouts.
Franklin weighed in at 176 pounds, which falls into a concerning fifth percentile at the position. His listed playing weight at Oregon last year was 187 pounds, which makes for a significantly different prospect profile considering his slender frame entering the NFL.
How Old Is Franklin?
Franklin turned 21 years old earlier this year after completing his third year of college football. He is an early declare, which does make him one of the younger receiver prospects in this class.
Franklin’s Latest Scouting Report
After high school, Franklin immediately showed promise in his first year with the Oregon Ducks. Then, as a true sophomore in 2022, he ascended to All-Pac-12 prominence, catching 61 passes for 891 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging almost 15 yards per catch.
In Franklin’s scouting report, Pro Football Network Draft Analyst Ian Cummings said he is a natural at the WR position and is a premier athlete.
Franklin is described as a long-strider with exceptional vertical range and the frame to wall off defenders and a hyper-explosive athlete with instant acceleration and searing speed down the field.
“At around 6’2″, 183 pounds, Franklin is a snappy, elastic long-strider with the speed and explosiveness to threaten defenses vertically,” Cummings wrote. “He can carve up seams and up the boundary, but he also has the lateral twitch and foot speed to offset DBs, the sink and flexibility to support a full route tree, and the agility and active feet to be a stubborn RAC threat.

“With his frame and vertical ability, Franklin also brings some boons of a larger receiver. He’s flashed the ability to wall off smaller DBs with his frame, and his length gives him a wide catch radius. To that end, he has excellent body control and contortion ability, and he can snare throws past his frame.”
While he has slight inconsistencies and a lighter frame, Franklin still has plenty of potential in the league and can be a high-end WR2 with a quality-starter upside.
