College Football Games Today: How and where to watch in Week 9

The college football schedule is nearly in full swing today, as almost all of the top 25 teams have games to play. We’re still one week away from the Pac-12 making their college football 2020 debut, but the slate is chock full of intriguing matchups anyway! Only one game features two ranked teams, but there’s a little something for everyone with the lineup of college football games today.

ACC college football games today — TV schedule

Boston College at #1 Clemson — 12 PM ET | ABC

Clemson is the cream of the crop in the college football world, and Trevor Lawrence is the nation’s best QB. Unfortunately for Clemson, the best team has to take the field Saturday without their best player. Lawrence has tested positive for COVID19 and will not be available for the game against Boston College. His absence may loom large next week, depending on how his illness tracks, but Clemson should be just fine without him today.

Score prediction: Clemson 35, Boston College 17

Wake Forest at Syracuse — 12 PM ET | ACC Network

Score prediction: Wake Forest 28, Syracuse 20

#4 Notre Dame at Georgia Tech — 3:30 PM ET | ABC

Notre Dame came out last week and showed why they’re a top-5 team in the nation, coming out strong after a weak performance the week before. Pittsburgh felt the full wrath of the Irish, and they look to have gotten back on track. Meanwhile, Georgia Tech has been blitzed by nearly everyone they’ve played so far this season. However, they have a convincing win over a Louisville team that played Notre Dame tough two weeks ago.

This game could get interesting, with the potential trap of Notre Dame looking ahead to Clemson next week. I don’t think it will be, though.

Score prediction: Notre Dame 42, Georgia Tech 20

Virginia Tech at Louisville — 4:00 PM ET | ACC Network

Score prediction: Virginia Tech 31, Louisville 35

    Charlotte at Duke — 7:00 PM ET | ESPN3

Score prediction: Duke 28, Charlotte 24

#15 North Carolina at Virginia — 8:00 PM ET | ACC Network

North Carolina may be one of the surprise teams of the year in college football. Mack Brown has come in and turned the Tar Heels into a legitimate contender in the ACC. They may not be ready to compete with Clemson just yet, but they’re becoming a powerhouse in their own right. Virginia, on the other hand, is very much not. They simply won’t have the firepower or the defensive prowess to hold up in this contest.

Score prediction: North Carolina 41, Virginia 17

AAC games today — TV schedule

Memphis at #7 Cincinnati — 12 PM ET | ESPN

If ever there was a season in which a Group of 5 team could make a case for inclusion in the College Football playoff, it may very well be this one. Cincinnati comes in as the seventh-ranked team in the country, knocking on the doorstep of the top 5. Memphis would love to play spoiler, however, and boasts a strong offense of their own, led by senior QB Brady White. But they haven’t faced a defense like Cincinnati’s, who’s giving up a paltry 12.5 points per game.

Score prediction: Memphis 31, Cincinnati 42

    Temple at Tulane — 12 PM ET | ESPN+

Score prediction: Temple 38, Tulane 41

    UCF at Houston — 2 PM ET | ESPN+

Score prediction: UCF 38, Houston 35

    Navy at #22 SMU — 7:30 PM ET | ESPN2

When most people think of today’s SMU program, they think of a high-flying passing attack, and rightfully so. The team runs an Air-Raid system, led by former Texas QB Shane Buchele. Don’t underestimate the running attack, though. Rushing is what the Navy program is known for, but SMU runs the ball just as effectively. This game is going to come down to who can come up with more stops on defense.

Score prediction: SMU 45, Navy 24

Big 12 college football games today — TV schedule

    #23 Iowa State at Kansas — 12 PM ET | FS1

Iowa State is coming off their second loss of the season after dropping the Oklahoma State game last week in a game that wasn’t as close as the final score would indicate. They look to get back on track against Les Miles and the Kansas Jayhawks. Miles has yet to find the same success with Kansas that he enjoyed at the helm with LSU, as Kansas has remained a perennial bottom-tier team in the conference.

Score prediction: Iowa State 35, Kansas 13

    #16 Kansas State at West Virginia — 12 PM ET | ESPN2

Kansas State comes into Morgantown missing their projected starting quarterback, but that hasn’t stopped the Wildcats from rolling. Since dropping their season opener to Arkansas State, K-State has reeled off four consecutive victories. That streak includes an upset over then-third ranked Oklahoma. West Virginia has a strong defense, allowing under 300 yards per game in a conference not known for defense, but they’ll be outmatched Saturday.

Score prediction: Kansas State 41, West Virginia 28

    TCU at Baylor — 3:30 PM ET | ESPN2

Score prediction: TCU 29, Baylor 27

Texas at #6 Oklahoma State — 4:00 PM ET | FOX

Oklahoma State has won four straight, including a three-point victory over Iowa State last week and sits at #6 in the country. Texas has lost two of the last three and is unranked. Yet Oklahoma State is only a 3.5 point favorite in Saturday’s matchup. Texas has a more prolific offense, but Oklahoma State has a better overall team. This could be a trap for State, as their next two games are versus ranked opponents. I expect a close one here

Score prediction: Texas 38, Oklahoma State 42

#24 Oklahoma at Texas Tech — 8:00 PM ET | FOX

This isn’t the Oklahoma team we’ve grown accustomed to over the years. There is no Heisman contender at quarterback this season. They’re ranked, but they sit at just 3-2 on the season with losses to Iowa State and Kansas State. Texas Tech also has losses to both Iowa State and Kansas State on their resume, with an overtime loss against Texas to boot. Tech may be better than their record suggests, but Oklahoma should roll.

Score prediction: Oklahoma 45, Texas Tech 38

Big Ten games today — TV schedule

Michigan State at #13 Michigan — 12 PM ET | FOX

The Big Ten conference joined the college football landscape last week, with their first games of the year. Today, Michigan looks to roll their in-state rivals Michigan State and improve to 2-0 on the season. The Wolverines got a big win in their debut over #21 Minnesota, while the Spartans laid an egg against Rutgers. One game is generally too small a sample size to draw any real conclusions, but it’s clear Sparty is overmatched here

Score prediction: Michigan 45, Michigan State 24

Purdue at Illinois — 12 PM ET | Big Ten Network

Score prediction: Purdue 28, Illinois 20

#17 Indiana at Rutgers — 3:30 PM ET | Big Ten Network

Rutgers joined the Big Ten in 2014 and has more winless seasons in-conference than seasons with multiple wins in that span. This year, anything is possible, as Rutgers showed Saturday, winning their season opener against Michigan State. They look to make it two in a row today against Indiana. A win would make them college football darlings. Indiana should overpower the Scarlet Knights, however. Indiana is undefeated themselves, coming off a surprising — and controversial — win over #8 Penn State.

Score prediction: Indiana 37, Rutgers 17

Northwestern at Iowa — 3:30 PM ET | ESPN

Score prediction: Iowa 24, Northwestern 23

#3 Ohio State at #18 Penn State — 7:30 PM ET | ABC

This is the premier matchup on the college football schedule today. Today, the only game featuring two ranked opponents goes down in Happy Valley, as the Buckeyes square off against the Nittany Lions. The Big Ten is only one game into their schedule, but the Buckeyes already look like a National Championship contender. Penn State would love nothing more than to spoil their hopes on the road to a title of their own. This clash of titans should be worth the wait.

WKU at #11 BYU — 10:15 PM ET | ESPN

Last season LSU quarterback Joe Burrow came out of relative obscurity to set numerous records, lead his team to a title, and become the #1 overall pick in the NFL Draft. BYU’s Zach Wilson may not reach any of those heights, but he seems to be the hot new QB this season and may very well have vaulted himself into the first round. He has his BYU team on the precipice of the top 10 ahead of a showdown with Western Kentucky. Could the game today be another trap on the college football schedule, with a showdown at Boise State looming large for the Cougars?

Score prediction: BYU 45, WKU 13

#25 Boise State at Air Force — 6:00 PM ET | CBS Sports Network

Boise State joined the college football landscape last week with a convincing win over Utah State and sit at #25 in the nation. Air Force comes into today’s game at 1-1, with a convincing win over Navy, then a close loss to San Jose State after a 3-week layoff. Boise State boasts the more high-powered offense, but points may come at a premium in the game today, as these two of college football’s toughest defenses.

SEC games today — TV schedule

#5 Georgia at Kentucky — 12 PM ET | SEC Network

It seems like every season it’s the same story: Georgia and Alabama battling it out for SEC supremacy. Last week, as usual, Alabama came out on top of the battle, this time with a convincing 41-24 drubbing of the Bulldogs. Georgia looks to get back on track today against Kentucky. Kentucky has struggled for points, scoring just 19 in their last three games combined. It’s not a great combination for the Wildcats

Score prediction: Georgia 45, Kentucky 17

LSU at Auburn — 3:30 PM ET | CBS

Score prediction: LSU 35, Auburn 31

Mississippi State at #2 Alabama — 7:00 PM ET | ESPN

Another year, another shot at a national championship for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Just business as usual for Nick Saban, as Alabama has once again successfully re-tooled and asserted their dominance in the SEC. They come into today’s game as the #2 in the nation and have beaten every opponent by at least two touchdowns. Mississippi State, for all the fanfare coming into the season, has been somewhat of a let-down. Mike Leach and company are coming into today’s game with a 3-game losing streak after knocking off #6 LSU to start the season.

Score prediction: Alabama 42, Mississippi State 17

Ole Miss at Vanderbilt — 4:00 PM ET SEC Network

Score prediction: Ole Miss 35, Vanderbilt 20

    Arkansas at #8 Texas A&M — 7:30 PM ET | SEC Network

The Arkansas Razorbacks may be the toughest .500 team in college football. After losing big to Georgia to start the season, Arkansas upset #16 Mississippi State and played #13 Auburn to a 2-point loss. Now they face yet another ranked team with #8 Texas A&M. The Aggies are coming off their own victory against Mississippi State and a close win against #4 Florida. This game should be closer than the rankings may indicate. Of all the games on the college football schedule today, this could prove the most entertaining.

    Score prediction: Arkansas 28, Texas A&M 35

Missouri at #10 Florida — 7:30 PM ET | SEC Network (alternate)

Kyle Trask and the Florida offense are legit. Florida has scored at least 35 points in each of the three games they’ve played this season. The Florida defense? Less legit. Florida’s defense is allowing almost 500 yards per game and has allowed over 35 points in two of the three games this season. On the other hand, Missouri has scored more than 20 points just once this season and allowed 35+ in three of their four games.

Score prediction: Missouri 24, Florida 41

Sun Belt games today — TV schedule

#20 Coastal Carolina at Georgia State — 12 PM ET | ESPNU

Coastal Carolina is the feel-good story of college football. Their game today is just their second all-time as a ranked team, their first coming last week. Their success has been nothing short of spectacular considering they joined the FBS ranks just three short years ago. Georgia State is no slouch, though, and will be looking to rain on the Chants parade today. The Panthers have had an up-and-down season, but they can score with the best of them. Today’s game should be a shining example of what has earned this conference the name of the “Fun Belt.”

Score prediction: Coastal Carolina 45, Georgia State 42
