Friday’s CFB schedule: What college football games are on tonight?

Friday night college football kicks off with an ACC battle between the undefeated Syracuse Orange and the Virginia Cavaliers. Although it’s still early in the season, this feels like a critical game for both of these teams.

Although they have been underdogs in two of their three games, Syracuse has been the surprise team for the ACC so far. They started the year with a shocking win over Louisville, followed by a dismantling of Uconn, and then beat Purdue in stunning fashion 32-29.

A big part of their success is due to junior QB Garrett Schrader, who might not always put up the biggest stats, but has been solid. Not only has he been serviceable in the air — with 709 passing yards and eight touchdowns — but he’s also a threat on the ground, with 201 rushing yards so far.

Meanwhile, Virginia will be relying on their impressive WR play to help them attempt to give Syracuse their first loss of the year. The Cavaliers currently have three receivers with at least 100 yards on the season, led by senior Keytaon Thompson. If Syracuse has a weakness right now, it’s their passing defense. This might mean Thompson and his supporting cast could be in for a big game.

The Mountain West also makes an appearance on the Friday night college football slate when the Nevada Wolf Pack travel to Colorado Springs to take on the Air Force Falcons. The Falcons are currently massive favorites in this one, laying more than three touchdowns at most sportsbooks.

It isn’t hard to see why — Nevada is simply a bad football team right now. Air Force is top of the nation in rushing yards, averaging an impressive 6.91 yards per carry, and they are going up against the Wolf Pack’s 46th-ranked rushing defense. Now that might not seem so bad, but when you consider the schedule of opponents Nevada has faced, their run defense is significantly worse than what the numbers show.
