Heading into the 2025 NFL Draft, there is a constant debate in the NFL world about who is the better quarterback: Deion Sanders’ son, Shedeur Sanders, or Miami Hurricanes star Cam Ward.
While many analysts express their faith in Sanders’ arm strength and accuracy, others have drawn comparisons between Ward and a three-time Super Bowl champion.
Both quarterbacks are expected to be among the top five picks in this year’s NFL Draft, and fans will be interested to see which one takes the higher spot.

College Analyst Makes Thoughts Clear on Shedeur Sanders, Cam Ward
While both quarterbacks are full of talent and potentially have a bright career ahead in the league, On3 analyst J.D. PicKell made his choice between the two during the latest episode of his podcast on the On3 channel.
PicKell suggested that Sanders and Ward have similar playing styles and have a great chance of having successful NFL careers. He highlighted that the Colorado quarterback has a pretty obvious appeal, not just because of his football skills but also because of his last name.
The analyst also said that if Sanders goes to the New York Giants, he will not have difficulty getting the spotlight as he has seen it all his life.
Along with the comfort with fame, PicKell also talked about how tough Sanders was during his time at Colorado, getting sacked more than 50 times in the season and winning just four games in his first year.
While PicKell gushed about Sanders’ arm talent, he admitted that he would still choose Ward over him due to his physical attributes, saying that he likes the Miami star a little bit more as a runner.
“I’m not an NFL scout, but I like Cam Ward a little bit more as a runner. Both are good creators. I’d probably worry a little bit more about Cam Ward when he breaks contain and gets downhill picking up a first down as an NFL defensive coordinator.
“But the thing that I like about him [Ward], if we’re going to talk about both these guys being somewhat similar prospects, like, you want to do a score on these guys out of 100 points … if it’s going to be a difference of, like, maybe 10-ish percentage points in that conversation, I really love the way that Cam Ward has had to build to where he’s at right now, at Miami.”
“I get excited about the reality when I talk about Cam Ward — I know that he has been successful in a lot of different offenses, different places. … I’m not knocking Deion Sanders, I’m not knocking Shedeur Sanders, I’m just saying, I like the malleability of Cam Ward, and what he’s done to this point.”
The 2025 NFL Draft is set to take place in Green Bay, Wisc., from April 24-26.
