‘Closest Thing I’ve Seen to Sean McVay’ — Colin Cowherd Urges Bears To Monitor Marcus Freeman’s Situation Before Announcing New HC

Colin Cowherd urged the Bears to monitor Marcus Freeman's rise, calling him "the closest thing to Sean McVay" amid HC discussions.

Colin Cowherd just stirred the pot with a solid suggestion for the Chicago Bears. Instead of rushing into a new HC decision, he believes the team should be keeping an eye on Notre Dame’s Marcus Freeman.

Cowherd went as far as calling Freeman “the closest thing I’ve seen to Sean McVay” — a comparison that definitely raises eyebrows.

Colin Cowherd Urges Bears To Monitor Marcus Freeman’s Rising Star Power

On “The Herd with Colin Cowherd,” the NFL analyst made it clear that the Bears need to keep an eye on Freeman. While Cowherd admitted he’d go with Mike McCarthy, he couldn’t ignore Freeman’s potential.

“He’s the closest thing I’ve seen to Sean McVay,” Cowherd asserted, drawing a comparison that caught attention. Freeman, currently preparing his Notre Dame team for a national title game against Ohio State, is a rising star.

“I think it is too big of a lift to hire somebody that’s never been [an NFL] head coach, so I would go with Mike McCarthy. But there is a story out: Can the Chicago Bears resist Marcus Freeman?” Cowherd added.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero spilled the tea that the Bears are already eyeing Freeman for an interview despite his focus on the game.

“I am told the team wants to interview Notre Dame’s Marcus Freeman for the job,” Pelissero said this past Sunday. “Freeman is in the midst of a magical run with the Fighting Irish to the National Championship Game. Obviously, unlikely that he would entertain NFL overtures prior to that game a week from tomorrow against Ohio State but the Bears have done extensive research for months on Marcus Freeman.”

Cowherd further emphasized Freeman’s unique charisma, likening him to McVay’s energy, which has proven to be a game-changer for the Los Angeles Rams. Freeman’s leadership and potential to thrive in the NFL are undeniable.

For now, the Bears may need to wait until Freeman’s run at the national title wraps up.

Freeman’s Notre Dame Journey Reaches New Heights

Freeman’s Notre Dame journey just hit its peak. The Fighting Irish are set to face Ohio State in the College Football Playoff National Championship game, defying the odds in the inaugural 12-team CFP. ESPN’s Matt Barrie highlighted Freeman’s monumental impact on the program.

Barrie pointed out that, despite the program’s challenges, Freeman has revitalized Notre Dame, even with obstacles that might have derailed others. “It’s not set up for Notre Dame to win the national championship,” Barrie alluded, acknowledging the tough road Freeman’s squad has traveled.

Freeman took over a program left in disarray after the unexpected departure of his predecessor, Brian Kelly. Yet, in just a short time, he led them to the highest stage in college football. With a big game on the horizon, it’s clear Freeman has proven himself as a game-changer in South Bend, Ind., and we’re all eager to see what’s next.
