Cole Kmet Dynasty Profile: Fantasy Outlook, Value, Projections, and Rankings

After failing to breakout in 2022, what does Cole Kmet's future look like, and what is his value in dynasty fantasy football leagues going forward?

As we inch toward the new season, the ever-changing NFL landscape has player fantasy values constantly on the move. Whether you’re used to the dynasty platform or are still learning the rules, let’s dive into the latest dynasty fantasy football value of Cole Kmet.

Cole Kmet’s Dynasty Outlook and Value

Kmet was a popular breakout tight end candidate in 2022. He did average a career-best 8.7 ppg, but he didn’t really have the breakout many were hoping for.

Kmet’s season quite literally could not have gotten off to a slower start. He scored zero fantasy points over the first two weeks of the season despite playing over 80% of the snaps.

Kmet scored his first touchdown in Week 8 but still didn’t reach double-digit fantasy points or finish as a TE1. Fortunately, things got much better for Kmet over the second half of the season.

From Weeks 9-18, he was the overall TE4. He averaged 12.4 ppg, scoring six touchdowns over that span. The height of Kmet’s season came in Weeks 9 and 10 when he posted back-to-back 20-point games.

The former 2020 second-round pick is now entering the final year of his rookie contract. Given his performance, my guess is Chicago will look to extend him, possibly as soon as this summer.

    Cole Kmet’s Fantasy Ranking

The TE position is not in a great state right now for fantasy. Kmet remains just another random touchdown-dependent back-end TE1/high-end TE2. Since you can’t really stream tight ends in dynasty leagues, he’s an every-week starter. But he’s not moving the needle.

If you have Kmet, that’s perfectly fine. I wouldn’t go out of my way to get rid of him. But if you don’t have Kmet, I don’t see him possessing the upside to be a true top-five tight end. Yes, he was technically a top-five TE over the second half of last season, but you can find 9-12 ppg from a bunch of tight ends. Unless you think Kmet has 14+ ppg upside, he’s not someone you should be looking to acquire.

We have Kmet as a borderline TE1, currently ranking him at TE13 (No. 139 overall) in our dynasty Superflex rankings. If he falls late enough, you can certainly do worse at tight end in dynasty startup drafts. But ultimately, Kmet is just a value proposition. He’s worth it only at the right price.
