With this season’s Colorado Buffaloes team preparing for its last game together in the Alamo Bowl, there have been many reasons to celebrate. Among the seniors departing for the NFL next year is Buffaloes offensive lineman Justin Mayers, who celebrated his birthday on Dec. 12.
Deion Sanders Jr.’s Message for Justin Mayers on His Birthday
Mayers, a 6-foot-4 senior, tweeted about being blessed to turn 24. To this, Coach Prime’s oldest son, Deion Sanders Jr., shared a special message for him on X:

Mayers — listed as a four-star prospect — joined Colorado as a graduate transfer in 2023. Before coming to Boulder, he played 35 games in five seasons at UTEP. The offensive lineman only allowed a single sack in 402 passing attempts.
He is projected to be picked in the later rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Meanwhile, Sanders Jr., who has been recording behind-the-scenes videos of the Colorado team for his YouTube channel, has been pretty active on social media, defending the players and team.
Thursday, December 5th, on the Pat McAfee show, the Oregon Duck, Oregon’s mascot, remarked on two-way player Travis Hunter while the panel was discussing who’s going to win the Heisman Trophy between Hunter and Ashton Jeanty. He wrote on a dry eraser board:
“Snaps ain’t a stat though.”

Sanders Jr.’ unhappy with the comment, retweeted the clip and said:
“Yall are the #1 in the nation & yall whooped our ass last year… why tf is bro on there worried about us? S**t weird as hell.”
With the Heisman winner to be announced on Saturday, December 14th, it remains to be seen who will win between the top two contenders: Colorado’s dual-threat or Boise State’s consensus captain.
Continuing the trend, on December 7th, Sanders Jr. supported Colorado’s rival team Arizona State who were picked last in the Big 12 preseason media poll but instead went on to win the conference.
“It’s a beautiful thing seeing most of the teams projected to be at the bottom, at the top. Congratulations Arizona State, you deserve it!”

Coach Prime’s team itself was not expected to fare well this season, having finished 2023 with a 4-8 record and was not in the top 10 in the poll. However, the team made a turnaround this campaign, finishing near the top of the conference (9-3).
