Coach Prime Doubles Down on Much-Talked About NFL Take

Deion Sanders, also known as Coach Prime, is the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes. He has done an excellent job of turning the program around in the past few years. As a result, there were many rumors following the end of the 2024 NFL regular season that teams would be interested in hiring him. Two teams that popped up in rumors most often were the Las Vegas Raiders and Dallas Cowboys, though both went elsewhere.

Coach Prime Doubles Down on Whether He Would Go to the NFL as a Head Coach

Coach Prime has said several times that he is happy in Colorado. He has reiterated this despite the rumors that NFL teams had called him to gauge his interest in coming to the NFL. In January, Sanders had been in contact with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones about the team’s head coaching position. Although he considered it, neither pursued the partnership any further.

On Friday, Feb. 7, Sanders appeared on “First Take” to discuss his conversations with Jones and whether he ever truly considered taking the job.

“It was good. It was intriguing. It was intriguing. Even Jerry sat right behind me last night and we laughed our butts off and we hugged and we embraced and we laughed our butts off because we knew what was behind the curtain.

“It was intriguing, now I did think about it like the possibilities, but I think at this point in time, I’m called to the college game. I’m called to the young men. I’m called to those cities, those towns, those communities. That’s who I’m called for to make impact in this stage and age of my life.”

Sanders clearly has been successful in breaking through to college players. When clips are posted of Coach Prime speaking to his players in games and at practices, you can see just how much the players respect him. This has been reiterated many times throughout the past two years when Buffaloes players speak to the media.

So, it looks like Sanders will stay in Colorado, at least in the immediate future. Coach Prime did not completely rule out a return to the NFL at some point. However, he made it clear that he is happy in college for now. It will be interesting to see if that changes next season when he knows where his sons, Shedeur and Shilo Sanders, are playing.
