The ripple effect of dynasty fantasy football managers who invested the top overall rookie pick in Kansas City Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire back in 2020 — over the likes of Minnesota Vikings WR Justin Jefferson, Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor, and Dallas Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb — can still be felt to this day.
What is Edwards-Helaire’s current dynasty value as an unrestricted free agent heading into the 2024 NFL offseason?
Clyde Edwards-Helaire’s Dynasty Outlook
Edwards-Helaire’s four-year totals with the Chiefs can be outright depressing when comparing it to the sky-high expectations many had for him after Kansas City selected him with a late first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
#Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire would not be denied on this run! 😤

His 2,610 total yards and 19 total TDs can be a colossal disappointment, considering how perfectly the table was set for him to be a fantasy football star. His rushing yards decreased every single season, which led to him eventually losing his starting role to RB Isiah Pacheco.
Edwards-Helaire wasn’t particularly awful as a contributing player to a winning team, but he simply failed to seize firm control of the bell cow role in one of the most valuable positions in all of fantasy football.
Perhaps the biggest disappointment came in the modest production we saw from him as a pass catcher. He failed to ever record more than 36 receptions in a season, despite the fact his receiving skills appeared to be one of his best traits coming into the NFL out of LSU.
Now that he is set to hit the free agent market this offseason, dynasty managers have to ask themselves a question — what does Edwards-Helaire do well enough to suggest he will ever have a shot at being a relevant fantasy asset again moving forward?
Do we see him being an exceptional third-down back with a high PPR floor? His track record suggests the answer is no.

Is he an exceptionally elusive back who could thrive in a complementary role? His track record says no.
Can he excel in short-yardage situations to make him a viable threat to score a rushing touchdown in a high-powered offense? His track record in one of the most productive offensive units in the league suggests the answer is no.
Outside of a depth signing by a running back-needy team, Edwards-Helaire’s dynasty outlook is not great heading into 2024.

If you are a shareholder of Edwards-Helaire and manage to find a trade partner who is interested in acquiring him ahead of the 2024 NFL offseason, then I would be eager to participate in that conversation.
I would be ecstatic to get a third-round rookie pick in return for Edwards-Helaire at this time. I fear he may have trouble finding his way to a roster spot, much less finding a fantasy-relevant role on the open market in what could be a loaded free agent class at the RB position.

This isn’t meant to be an indictment on Edwards-Helaire as a player, but if he wasn’t able to carve out a meaningful fantasy role in an explosive offense that invested first-round draft capital in him, does he really have a bright fantasy future in the NFL?
My answer is no.
