Meet Ken Dorsey, the Cleveland Browns’ 2024 Offensive Coordinator

Ken Dorsey will be heading into his first season as Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator in 2024. What makes him a good fit with the Dawg Pound?

With 16 years of combined playing and coaching experience, the Cleveland Browns offered Ken Dorsey the offensive coordinator role on Feb. 5, 2024.

He will work closely with head coach Kevin Stefanski and lead the offense for the 2024 season against a tough AFC North division.

Dorsey’s stint with the Browns is almost a full-circle moment, as he joined the team as a backup quarterback in 2006 after playing two years with the San Francisco 49ers at the start of his NFL career.

Everything You Need To Know About Browns Offensive Coordinator Ken Dorsey

From his college days, Dorsey had a successful career as quarterback of the Miami Hurricanes, winning a national championship in 2001.

The 49ers selected Dorsey in the seventh round of the 2003 NFL Draft, and then he made a few stops with teams like the Browns and Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League.

After retiring as a player in 2010, Dorsey dipped his toes into coaching. He was appointed QBs coach at Lakewood Ranch Mustangs High School in Bradenton, Florida, and later served as Riverview High School’s offensive coordinator in Sarasota.

Dorsey spent two years as a pro scout, and in August 2013, he kicked off his NFL coaching career when he was hired as the Panthers’ QBs coach under Ron Rivera. After spending five years in Carolina, the team fired Dorsey in 2018.

Dorsey joined the Buffalo Bills in 2019 and eventually worked his way up to offensive coordinator in 2022. After the team started 5-5 in the 2023 season, the Bills fired Dorsey and replaced him with QBs coach Joe Brady.

How Long Has Dorsey Been the Browns’ Offensive Coordinator?

The Browns hired Dorsey on Feb. 5, 2024. It’ll be his first season with the team after his four-year stint with Buffalo.

The Browns’ OC has previously contributed to the success of Cam Newton with the Panthers and Josh Allen with the Buffalo Bills.

Talking about his decision to hire Dorsey, Stefanski said that the former Bills OC fits with the Browns “culturally.”

Who Was the Browns’ OC Before Dorsey?

Stefanski announced the dismissal of the team’s former offensive coordinator, Alex Van Pelt, in mid-January, just a few days after Cleveland’s playoff blowout loss to the Houston Texans. Van Pelt spent four years with the Browns before eventually being replaced by Dorsey.

The Browns struggled from an offensive point of view in 2023, and it showed in the disappointing 45-14 loss to the Texans. The running game couldn’t gain traction, and two interceptions by Joe Flacco sealed the Browns’ fate. Getting blanked in the second half didn’t help Van Pelt either in terms of the recency effect.

After the dismissal, Van Pelt honored his time with the Browns and said, “Proud of my time here, onto the next.”
