NFL Awards Cincinnati Bengals 2 Compensatory Draft Picks

    Published on

The Cincinnati Bengals have received multiple compensatory picks from the NFL for the first time since 2019 when they were awarded three.

CINCINNATI – The Cincinnati Bengals have been awarded two compensatory picks for the 2024 NFL Draft.

Both picks are in the sixth round, Nos. 208 and 214.

Each year the league awards 32 compensatory picks in Rounds 3-7 for players, coaches, and/or executives who leave their teams.

Cincinnati Bengals Receive 2 6th-Round Comp Picks

Where those picks land is dependent on a formula that weighs losses in free agency against players gained, and they are based on the contracts the players sign.

The Bengals would have been in line for a third-round comp pick for losing safety Jessie Bates III, who signed a four-year, $64 million contract with the Atlanta Falcons. But then Cincinnati signed Orlando Brown Jr., also to a four-year, $64 million contract.

The losses of safety Vonn Bell and tight end Hayden Hurst were the ones that led to the awarding of the sixth-round comp picks.

The signing of safety Nick Scott canceled out the loss of running back Samaje Perine.

No. 208 is the first comp pick (33rd overall) of the sixth round.

The Bengals will have one pick in Rounds 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 in addition to the three in Round 6.

Because Cincinnati has been so active in free agency lately, this is the first time the team has received compensatory picks since 2021, when the league awarded the Bengals a fourth rounder that they used to select D’Ante Smith with No. 139.

This year’s picks bring the total to 41 that Cincinnati has received since the NFL implemented the compensatory program in 1994.

The San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams received the most comp picks this year with five. The most the Bengals have received has been four, which happened in 2018 (third, fifth, two sevenths), 2017 (fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh), 2009 (third, sixth, two sevenths), 2008 (third, sixth, two sevenths).

In 2017, the Bengals packaged their sixth- and seventh-round picks to trade up 10 spots and draft safety Brandon Wilson.

In 2018, they used the third-round pick to move up and draft linebacker Malik Jefferson.

The best sixth-round pick in team history is Pro Football Hall of Famer Ken Riley.

Here is the list of sixth-round picks the Bengals have made since 2013:
